NBC BLOWS A HOLE IN NY TIMES' EXPLOSIVES STORY (KERRY SPOT)
The Kerry Spot, NRO ^ | 10/25/04 | Jim miclacevski

Posted on 10/25/2004 6:26:01 PM PDT by Timeout

KERRY SPOT

Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.

NBC News: Miklaszewski: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq.” (NBC’s “Nightly News,” 10/25/04)

If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.

"As a long time subscriber, I am more and more dismayed by your newspaper’s inability to get the facts straight in a story."

lol - did you put that in just to make it sound good or are you really a long time subscriber?

I bet the story just vanishes. Small corrections and then no one talks about it and we don't hear about it for the rest of the campaign.

In fact, I bet tommorrwo will be all about this Washigntonpost obsession with the civil liberties of terrorists. Ya know, I have seen very little reporting on the terrorists that are back WITH the terrorists after being released from Gitmo. I hope they are now CIA operatives, cuz that is unconsciounable that we are releasing terrorists that are now plotting mass murder....

"At the Pentagon, an official who monitors developments in Iraq said U.S.-led coalition troops had searched Al-Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact. Thereafter, the site was not secured by U.S. forces, the official said, also speaking on condition of anonymity."

PLEASE...get the FACTS clear here:
"The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX,"

The POINT of all this- is not the smaller grade ammo/weapons- but the BIG DEAL stuff - the HMX and RDX.

Not sure if you're trolling...or seeing if we can read and comprehend here...but you've posted this quote twice here. Forgive me if I seem rude- but if this is the spin the DNC is going to float, it WILL NOT SUCCEED.

Sometimes the MSM throws out a teaser headline, and the blogosphere already has the story filed before the MSM actually reports it.

LOL I know that's why I'm so addicted to this place!

Someone at the NY Times is sitting down with a fifth of Jack Daniels trying to figure out what to write and sweating the deadline for the morning addition.

Well, let's help them out with the story.

Cut-and-paste the whole Drudge story into an e-mail to the Times news tips/managing editor/executve editor. All the addresses are on NYT home page at bottom -- click "contact us".

It was pure drama. Lou was indignant, he would ask Peggy to explain, he would interrupt, and claim (with his hand on his heart), that the shear incompetence of Bush, he was aghast!!!!!!

Peggy gently tried to explain the way war works, and he would have none of it.

Horrible, just horrible.

"History may remember this election cycle"

IT depends on who's got control in the future. My fear is that DemCommies are weakening us as a nation, emboldening the Islamofascists.

A few weeks ago, shortly after Rathergate, O'Reilly had a guest (I forget who it was) and they were discussing Dan Rather. Bill made the comment that the higher ups at Fox had sent a memo, that in light of the Rather controversy, they were supposed to be "more fair and balanced". A lot of FReepers have commented that since then, there has been a discernable change at Fox.

Thanks. I didn't see the exchange but have been commenting on how their "fair and balance" trend has become lopsided of late.

LMAO, President Bush, and Carl Rove played them like a fish. It must really hurt, that the DemoRAT's swallowed that hook so badly. Man. it's going to HURT when they pull that hook out. (okay enough with the fishing analogy).

The President has shown how vapid, and shallow the "PLAN" of sKerry really is. The DemoRATS just got burned BIG time for policy by headlines.
