Today's Question Each day, we ask MaineToday.com readers for their reactions to events in the news:
Who will take Maine? Polls show President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry are neck-and-neck both nationally and in Maine. Which candidate do you think will take Maine on Nov. 2? George Bush John Kerry Not sure Don't care
This survey is not scientific. The results are a snapshot of what readers who choose to take the poll are thinking. It is designed to allow readers to interact with the news of the day, and is not intended to be used for reference purposes.

To top of story
Maine may have lost its standing as a presidential battleground state by sliding into the Democratic column, according to a newspaper poll that gives Sen. John Kerry an 11-point lead over President Bush among likely voters.
The poll also suggests two statewide referendums are headed for defeat on Nov. 2. Respondents oppose a property tax cap by better than a 2-1 margin, according to the poll, while more than half of those questioned plan to vote against a ban on bear baiting.

Looks like it will be split ev's. Northern Maine is more conservative.
There are several scenarios under which Bush could eke out a tie or a win with Maine's lone vote on a split ticket.
Bear baiting? How Elizabethan . . .
I'm thinking that if Bush can take Iowa which is a liberal state, he has more wins coming in states that he didn't win in 2000. My hunch is that the race won't be close enough to need a swing state like Maine which can't be counted on all that much.
I live in northern Maine and I have voted already.
I say, bring over the rest of Somalia and dump them in Maine. They deserve each other.
It must get lonely, being only conservative in Maine.
The REAL Maine is north and east of the Kennebec River. Those areas to the south and west of the Kennebec are just a suburb of Boston...kind of like Vermont.
There are actually several of us conservatives in Maine, but the Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News would have you believe othewrwise.
Glad to see that SheLion is in fact not alone. Do you all have to meet in secret at night, is there a bounty on conservatives?????
That was a joke, dude. I have this mental picture of a bunch of guys in lumber jackets with ruff collars and pointy shoes. (A popular sport in Shakespeare's time was to put a bear in a pit and set dogs on him . . . bear baiting.) If you really want to know how to bait a bear (modern times), get a small propane bottle, put on a burner tip, take it to the head of a valley where your animal is, crack it slightly and let the fumes drift downwind. (Note: if the game wardens catch you pulling this stunt they will put you in a pit and set dogs on you.)
It doesn't read as a joke
