Barbaric rise of new hate

I BROWSED in Readers' Feast, a city bookshop, and was stunned to see so much hatred on sale. It was barbaric. And frightening.

Check for yourself what elegant bookshops now stock on American politics. Here's proof that hating the US is the anti-Semitism of the intellectual class, and the loathing of President George W. Bush is now lunatic. No wonder a survey by prominent Left-wing newspapers around the world found the US – and particularly its Christian president – so disliked.

You may think a little criticism of the US, the world's most dynamic democracy, is fine, and that dislike of Bush is healthy. But let me list some of the titles at Readers' Feast, so you can decide whether in fact they're proof of something sicker – a carnival of hate by anti-Christian "intellectuals" out of love with democracy and freedom.

Of course, I did find two books, or maybe three, mildly kind to the US and its president – one by a former speechwriter, and the other by famed reporter Bob Woodward, who calmly tells how Bush went to war against Islamist terrorists.

But then there were the rest – such as books claiming that under Bush, the US has gone feral. These include Worse than Watergate; American Gulag; Michael Moore's Stupid White Men and Dude, Where's My Country?; and From 9/11 to Terror War, which accuses Bush of "intensifying war and repression throughout the world".

The President himself is a vote-thief in hock to "right-wing religious fundamentalists", claims Bushwhacked. Or, as Bush's Secret World elaborates, he "relies on fanatical ideologies, fundamental Christians, shady businessmen and right-wing extremists".

It's odd the US hasn't crumbled completely, given that the slimy Dr Justin A. Frank in Bush on the Couch says his president suffers from "untreated alcohol abuse", possibly "dyslexia, ADHD and other thought disorders", as well as sadism and megalomania.

For more smears, see The Bush Hater's Handbook, Bush's Brain and Fortunate Son, a study of "power and its abuse" under Bush.

Mind you, America itself seems no healthier, to judge from How America gets away with Murder, The New White Nationalism in America, Tyranny in America, and What's the Matter with America.

SOME of the book titles seem insane. Killing Hope tells of hope-throttling US military interventions since World War II – which, in fact, included saving South Korea from communist invasion, Bosnia from Serbian killers, and Afghanistan from the Taliban.

Cold War Triumphalism even accuses the US of letting the (sad) fall of the Soviet Union go to its head, turning it into an evil empire.

That's more or less the theme, too, of Rogue Nation, Rogue State, American Empire and Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance.

Naturally, the war in Iraq was just a bloody hoax. Or so claims Bush's War for Reelection, Tell Me Lies, Fraud: The Strategy Behind the Bush Lies and Why the Media Didn't Tell You and Hoodwinked.

And the terrorists we are fighting were created by the US, or at best left to breed by its lousy leaders, says Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of America's Empire and Against All Enemies.

In fact, there is now "little to distinguish between the organised violence of the United States and that of those who oppose it", says Bush in Babylon, which shows on its cover an Iraqi child peeing on the head of an American soldier.

Sadly, Australian "thinkers" have joined this orgy of hate-speech. In The President of Good and Evil, Greens philosopher Peter Singer claims to have "ripped the sanctimonious preaching bark off George W. Bush".

Helen Caldicott, our nuclear hysteric, gives us The New Nuclear Danger: George W. Bush's Military Industrial Complex and former soft-porn publisher Richard Neville wrote Amerika Psycho. But former hippie Julian Nimmo trumps them with The Empire of Ignorance, Hypocrisy and Obedience.

You feel dirtied, wading through so much bile and hate. And there's more to come, such as Kitty Kelley's Bush biography, which says Bush and his wife were druggies.

Still, I think you smell the swamp already. The sick thing is that for many readers diving in, that swamp smells sweet, and they cannot see the monster below.

Maureen Dowd's three periods inserted into a sentence, vastly changing the meaning of a Bush quote, was a miracle. How many women at her age can put together three periods in a row?

It is about time for a cleansing.

It IS interesting that the two countries where Bush was found to be more popular than Kerry, Israel and Russia, are next to the US, probably the two remaining most religious countries in the world.

I recently examined the books on a "Current Events" table in a Barnes and Noble in Sacramento.

32 titles were anti-Bush. 6 were pro-Bush. 5 were more or less non-partisan.

Coulter, Savage, Steyn, O'Rourke, Limbaugh (either one), Hannity, O'Reilly were not represented.

It's amazing that so many people are so hateful. I fear that the democracy in the US is under attack. Some people do not believe in the idea that one vote for one citizen is good. They advocate voting more than once, register anyone even if the person has no idea of the election. Many do not seem to know that what the person they are voting for stands for. They do not know that what a person says is not necessarily what they believe. They do not seem to know that their actions reveal what they really believe. The get out the vote campaign is a vehicle to make a mockery of our form of government in the United States.

G.W. Bush has the same effect on Eurabians as does holy water, garlic, silver bullets and iron crosses on Vampires. Eurabians are sufering from spiritual vampirism and W. is the cure.

Soon, after the election, they may begin to foam at the mouth and go into epileptic fits.

The word hate has made me dip deep into my memories. I,having learnt to read early, read the British Press in WW2. The greatest mentor of our times in "hate" I submit, is George Orwell. Orwell, conceded that he felt one must deal with the likes of the BBC, to defeat the Facists. He never felt right about the propaganda of hate though.

Orwell realised that this powerful weapon, which feeds on every ill within the soul, was dangerous. He wrote 1984. I now realise that the ultimate in hate, was peddled by the London Daily Mirror. Yet, although the Germans came in for their share, it was the Japanese who took the brunt. Hate, hate, and more hate.

I hold no sympathy for the Japanese military. The ultimate in brutality. Yet, I now realise, with a deep sorrow, the actual weapon of hate, is now being used against the President of the United States. Given some of the living dictators today and one can point to Africa, surely this is a political weapon to destroy GWB.

I accessed Drudge. A Charles Hooper, of the Guardian has called for the assassination of GWB. As a coward ,he has used covert language.

I go back to Orwell and the hate week of 1984. The mindless proles shouting "Goldstein, Goldstein, Goldstein. They had their fix of "hate". Thus the left seeks to control- give them their fix of hate. I silently pray for this good land. USA.

I've been saying that for weeks as well.

I truly that is what they are attempting to do.

I beg to differ. Russia is reclaiming Orthodox Christianity, but the re-evangenization is still on-going with a long way to go. Half of Israel is atheist. Poland is probably the most observant country in the world today. I would put Ireland at #2, but I'm not so sure anymore.

"...The Bush Hater's Handbook..." and etc

Yes, it is nothing less than malignant hatred. It's exactly what the far left claims to be against (to wit, "hate crime") but they are so very good at it, aren't they?

Interestingly, the more overcome people are with such emotions as hatred, the less likely they are to consider the fallibility of their belief system.

Uncle Joe Stalin would be so proud.

Sorry about that, you're right on Poland. Israel is probably half-secular, but half-religious means its people are far more religious than Europe. The same in Russia. People don't realize how secular Europe has become; only something like 2 percent of the British go to church regularly.
