I had never heard this before. Does anybody know anything about this story? The author was at one time well regarded in Washington and is not generally regarded here as a RINO.

I didn't put a barf alert on the story because I wasn't at all sure that the story was inaccurate. It seems possible to me that, as disgusting as Kerry is, he might have done one good thing in his career. I would like to know the other side of the story, apart from the one presented here, and thought my fellow freepers might be a source of that other side.

Hmmm Even a broken clock is right 2 times a day. Given the ENORMOUS DAMAGE Kerry has, and is, doing to this country, his possible role in a late 1980 criminal investigation does not undue 35 years of almost daily damage to US National Security and International relations. Sound's to me like this author just has a crush on Kerry and is rationalizing betraying his "Life long political principals" to stay in denial.

• Kerry missed more than 75% of the meetings of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
• Kerry proposed slashing the intelligence budget by $7.5 billion after the first attack on the World Trade Center.
• Kerry has voted at least 350 times for higher taxes.
• Kerry has been able to persuade congress to pass only eight insignificant laws that bear his name, and most of those were strictly ceremonial.
• Kerry has proposed that use of force by the US must meet a “global test.”
• Kerry voted against the first Gulf War, after Saddam invaded Kuwait. By Kerry’s standards, Saddam would still be in power, and in Kuwait.

You have to wonder though, how come Kerry himself has never said anything about this? it's not like he's modest about himself.

Unlike the current President Bush, Kerry believes that privilege has its duties and that public service means putting oneself in the line of fire, whether literally in the jungles of Vietnam or metaphorically in the political minefields of Washington, D.C.

If anyone wonders about which jersey this guy is wearing, the above statement says it all.

Kerry may believe many things, but "privilege has its duties" is way, way down on the list.

Unless he's referring to Kerry's matrimonial duties.

This is the first I've heard of any of this, and I'm certainly not in a position to question its veractiy. However, I find it outrageous that any true conservative could support Kerry considering his domestic policies and his 20-year senate record of tax increases and weakening both our military and our intelligence. Dr. Ashby can support Kerry because of personal knowledge he has about a specific incident - there have been times when I have done supported candidates I didn't agree with philosophically because I knew them personally - but to begin this by saying he worked for Reagan he seems to suggest that Kerry is or could be a conservative's candidate. That's simply wrong. Kerry's "plan" for everything is a liberal, big government "plan."
