DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- An English teacher and cheerleading coach in Douglas County has been suspended without pay after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage male student.
Authorities say they suspended the teacher identified as 27-year-old Kari McCarley at Alexander High School last week after another teacher overheard the boy talking about a relationship with McCarley.
McCarley was released from jail on bond.

"You've yet to answer my question as to how male teachers who have sex with male students should be treated. Should they be prosecuted? Should they be fired? Sex doesn't hurt boys, right? How about female teachers who have sex with female students? Is that ok as well?"
No, I wouldn't say either was alright. There isn't any sympathy for them when it comes to enforcing statutory rape laws. No double standard, in other words.
I won't argue with you about the laws. If she broke the law, then she will have to endure a trial, even if the teenage boy wasn't harmed. (She will probably get probation, where a man would probably get prison time.)
I was just trying to explain to all those who are "outraged" why there is a double standard exhibited by many of us on this thread.
" remove those from power who abuse that power for their own sexual gratification."
I agree with you. Fire her, but then I already said that.

"If the boys are having casual sex with girlsIF?? The reality is - there's a huge amount of casual sex going on among the young kids. In urban areas it's the norm.

"Your ideas about sex are silly -- even infantile."
lol....no, just realistic. Sorry if real life doesn't coincide with your idealism.

And real life is full of silly, infantile people -- you included, apparently. That doesn't make it good, or desirable.

For those of up angry about the 'double standard', I think it's less about there being a double standard and more about the incredible chasm of difference between the two standards. A female teacher has sex with a 15 year old boy and prosecution reluctantly moves forward with supporters sending letters and protesting in her favor. A male teacher has sex with a 15 year old girl and a media frenzy swarms around him, the trial goes through in record time, and he's escorted about in a bullet-proof vest because of the death threats and the lynch mobs ready to tear him limb from limb.
Woman does it, and the response is, "oh gee, golly - that's probably not a very good idea unless you two are really in love".
A man does it, and the response is an endless series of slurs and curses intermingled with death threats and promises of eternal damnation.
They're wrong in both cases, and should be dealt with objectively and appropriately. The differences in how they're treated are tied almost entirely to emotional perception, rather than objective oberservation and judgement.

"For those of up"
Nicely done, NJ_gent - four words into the post. That should be 'us', obviously. :-)

Actually, a male teacher having sex with a 15 or 16 year old girl doesn't have quite as extreme a reaction as you say. That sort of reaction is usually reserved for pedophiles having sex with prepubescent children.
You are correct that the reaction is different however, and much of it is emotional, but there are rational reasons for the different reactions as well.

hey i went to alexander high school. i know the teacher and the student that did her. hah

I don't know how many people caught this a couple of weeks ago. Barbwa WaWa did her last show on Mary Kay LaTourneau, the teacher that groomed a kid from eight until he had a couple of kids with her at twelve. It was an amazing puff piece on a pedophile with mental problems.
Later they had a show on evil guys on the internet trying to find young girls (all believed the girls were over 13 which beyond the definition of pedophile).
Go figure.
