Injured, Angry, Determined, Swiftees Unite to Fight Kerry (Endgame, with checkmate imminent)
The Washington Times ^ | October 11, 2004 | Stephanie Mansfield

Posted on 10/10/2004 11:19:46 PM PDT by quidnunc

Midnight in South Vietnam, and the river is black. Past the rice paddies and shacks, small fires are burning by the shoreline as Lt. John H. Davis' 50-foot aluminum swift boat — PCF 19 — makes its routine patrol through the reeds.

In a split second, rocket fire shatters the silence, and through a plume of oily smoke, the boat sinks to the river's bottom.

"My whole crew lost their lives that night. I was the only one who survived," Lt. Davis says.

Lt. Davis, now 62, lost his left eye. The bones in both legs were shattered. But the scars of war are nothing compared to the demons that wake him from his sleep, leaving him drenched in sweat and trembling with fear.

"My latest nightmare was that I was pulling my crew out of the water. When it came to the last body, it was me."

Lt. Davis has come to Washington at his own expense, along with 89 other Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, to tape the eighth 60-second TV spot questioning Sen. John Kerry's fitness to be commander in chief.

They come from Oshkosh, Wis., and Orlando, Fla., San Francisco and Virginia Beach. One is on crutches. Others, former prisoners of war, walk stiffly, a result of being bound and tortured. Some wear their medals. Two are in cowboy boots.

Snow-haired Bud Day, a 79-year-old former POW, stands at attention. He is wearing a brown leather flight jacket befitting an Air Force major, complemented by the Medal of Honor around his neck. Others have donned "Swift Boat" baseball caps.

John's great, isn't he. He signed his book for me and wrote a personal note since I served in Coastal Division 13 shortly before Kerry arrived.

If these guys were against Bush they would be on Oprah, Hardball, Today, GMA, you name it 24x7.

MSM has never been so blatant, may their ratings go down in flames.

I don't believe that... his actions since returning.. don't show that kind of honor.. McLaim Feingold all by itself is an abortion.. as are most of his other stands.. the boy is a mole getting positioned for 2008 if Kerry and/or Hillary crap out.. Otherwise he would be much more aggressive for Kerry, I think.. The democrat dream senario is a contest between Hillary and Mclaim in 2008... or even Kerry and Mclaim..

I would love to know the truth about that trip.

How did McCain become so compromised and neutralized?

I agree. Young people need to know what happened back then. They need to see the degree of civil disobience. They need to see what happened on the campuses of Berkeley and Madison, Wisconsin and Kent State. They need to know about Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda, Scott Camil and Al Hubbard, John Kerry and Jan Crumb Berry, and all the rest of their ilk.

Exactly why would the VC offer to release him in the first place, all the while still holding his "brothers"?

General Neville Chamberlain Kerry. Now, any DU Lurkers may not know who Neville Chamberlain was . . well, he was a despot appeaser who just wanted to appease Adolph Hitler. Winston Churchill warned him (and others) it wouldn't work . . and they found out Hitler was impossible to appease by the time they were hip deep in German bombs. Now, people hardly even know who Chamberlain was, but who doesn't know who Winston Churchill was? Dare I say it? Winston Churchill Bush? - Terrorists killed over 3,000 people on 9/11 and destroyed the World Trade Center, folks. Now,Kerry tells us they are just a nuisance (there he goes with those French words again).

,........
could be but his time has passed -
I wonder if a lot of his actions are a spin off from his VERY bitter feelings of having lost the primary to "W".
and I don't think he ever got a total handle on anger issues - think he had a lot of emotional problems after those horrible long years in prison. Frankly, I stand amazed that he has done what he has with his life.
I think I might have just crawled off into a wiciup in the backwoods, grown a long beard and "hermitized" after what he went through.
That doesn't exclude that I'm damn mad at his actions these past few years. but with folk like Rudi in the wings, he'd never make it on our ticket. If he 'turns' - I think the gloves will come off and beans may get spilled.

Medved -
just told a Kerry guy off good -
Made him wonder about why is was that Kerry didn't get a discharge until 78....

he he

to wait until he had some political clout to change or keep it from being "less than honorable" -
Well, dah. Why hasn't the media picked up on this long ago and explored it 'zealously ' -
there are no more "reporters" -there are only regurgitaters.

The reason that McCain was offered the chance to go home early was because the North Vietnamese knew that his dad and grandfather were admirals. If they could get John to bite, they could humiliate three generations of naval officers.

Rush calls them the DNC transcription service, since all they do is put out the talking points.

The same people who seem to be making a career out of denigrating Lt Bush's ANG hours in 1972/3, have no zero nada interest in why Kerry was actively insulting our military when he still had 2 years to serve of his obligation.

Their dislike for anything military is totally revealed by this double standard.
