Injured, Angry, Determined, Swiftees Unite to Fight Kerry (Endgame, with checkmate imminent)
The Washington Times ^ | October 11, 2004 | Stephanie Mansfield

Posted on 10/10/2004 11:19:46 PM PDT by quidnunc

Midnight in South Vietnam, and the river is black. Past the rice paddies and shacks, small fires are burning by the shoreline as Lt. John H. Davis' 50-foot aluminum swift boat — PCF 19 — makes its routine patrol through the reeds.

In a split second, rocket fire shatters the silence, and through a plume of oily smoke, the boat sinks to the river's bottom.

"My whole crew lost their lives that night. I was the only one who survived," Lt. Davis says.

Lt. Davis, now 62, lost his left eye. The bones in both legs were shattered. But the scars of war are nothing compared to the demons that wake him from his sleep, leaving him drenched in sweat and trembling with fear.

"My latest nightmare was that I was pulling my crew out of the water. When it came to the last body, it was me."

Lt. Davis has come to Washington at his own expense, along with 89 other Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, to tape the eighth 60-second TV spot questioning Sen. John Kerry's fitness to be commander in chief.

They come from Oshkosh, Wis., and Orlando, Fla., San Francisco and Virginia Beach. One is on crutches. Others, former prisoners of war, walk stiffly, a result of being bound and tortured. Some wear their medals. Two are in cowboy boots.

Snow-haired Bud Day, a 79-year-old former POW, stands at attention. He is wearing a brown leather flight jacket befitting an Air Force major, complemented by the Medal of Honor around his neck. Others have donned "Swift Boat" baseball caps.

wonder who can explain McCain for me please. A POW too, someone who said the same things before that these men are saying today, what happened to you John..
....
pondered this too - but maybe something to do with the much later trip that he went on with Kerry - as Senators - to Vietnam on a POW trip. There has been much hint at scandal on kerrys part over that trip - I wonder

I don't think we will ever understand John McCain
....
I think it may be tied with the trip he and Kerry took years later as Senators to Vietnam on a POW inquiry - there have been some querilous hints of scandal over the years re Kerry and this trip and his dealings with the Viet Con...
maybe McCain doesn't want to open a can of worms?

The second sentence of the quote is a painful contrast to the senator who would like to be president.

A hearty "Amen!" to that.

He was very aloof and disdainful of people under him...
..........

aha! another example of Kerry's being 'consistent'
BR> 30 years ago he said he's like to see the US military put under the control of the UN.
Still does.
30 years ago he was a traitorous anit-war rabble rouser.
still is
during the Reagan years, he believed, as la Chamberlain, in appeasement and capitulation.
Still does.
In 'nam, he'd turn and run away from the enemy -
he'll do it again today...

So why do we call him a flip-flopper?
We aught to have an ad pointing out all the ways in which he DOESN"T flip-flop -
and oh, yes, do you think he's still 'aloof and disdainful? raise your hand.

John Kerry should be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in a small cell with the smell of burning sandalwood wafting through, and fed a bowl of rice mixed with rat feces each day, and listen to recordings of the Iraqi people praising President Bush.

What goes around, comes around. Kerry stepped on the little people as he clawed his way to the top. Now they're returning the favor in spades.

The Swift Boat ads are running big time on all the MSM local affiliates here in Las Vegas.

They have been running for 3-4 weeks & are in good time placements, during the CSI, L&O and other prime time slots as well as the news hours.

Las Vegas has 65,000 veterans living here now as well as the huge Nellis AFB.

I weep when I read of these brave men. My older brother proudly served in Vietnam in the Marine Corp. He's currently an ROTC instructor shaping new brave young men and women to serve. He also despises Kerry.
Kerry's four months in Vietnam was self-serving compared to what these other brave men endured. My prayers and thanks to all of them.

............

copy/paste and print this out for her =and everyone else too!
http://www.volunteertv.com/Global/story.asp?S=2346701

Col. Ed Morrisey, interviewed by a Knoxville TV station (ironically, the CBS affiliate):

Retired Colonel Morrisey has trained, developed and commanded lots of soldiers over a distinguished career.

He also swore in one very notable officer.

"George W. went to pilot training, seated well, being selected to be a fighter pilot, which is at the top of the line in the Air Force selection process. Came back to train in the F-102 at Ellington. He stood alert like anyone else," says Colonel Morrisey.

According to Morrisey, then-Lieutenant Bush more than fulfilled his guard requirements.

Morrisey says in the six years the President served he never failed to meet participation point requirements.

"Bush averaged 176 per year. In no year did he have less that 50," says Morrisey. "He was rated by his commander, Col. Maurice Udell in the top 5 of his pilots."

One of the criticisms leveled at the President is that he sought guard service to keep him from serving in Vietnam.

Morrisey says, "not so."

"The Air Force, in their ultimate wisdom, assembled a group of 102's and took them to Southeast Asia. Bush volunteered to go. But he needed to have 500 [flight] hours, but he only had just over 300 hours so he wasn't eligible to go,” Morrisey recalls

than ask your friend where Kerry's records are? Why wont he sing the 180 so's we can see, including his discharge papers? I've heard his 'honorable' discharge wasn't issued for many years after service. Senators can 'fix' and reissue records -and he n not only has Teddy Boy as her (opps, "his" - Freudian slip) surrogate daddy, but is a senator himself, and it's pretty well testified to that Kerry was good at rewriting records - got him medals that way. (Not to mention all those hundreds of pardons Pres. Clinton handed out like gumdrops to cronies.) AND, something I've always wondered why no one is wondering is: Kerry scooted out of 'nam after only 3 months in combat (1 month was in training) - and got his ticket back home - BUT he still had time to serve - and was required to be in the reserve, I believe, another 6 years. Now, what is his attendance record during those 6 years - while he was so busy falsely accusing our soldiers (and do a search on how some of the soldiers at that time have now come forward and told how he coerced them to lie, and how many of the so-called "Winter Soldiers" were never even in Vietnam) - put all of these and other things up against the unproven claim that Bush might not have taken a flight physical that he no longer needed, for reasons outlined in the memo - and stack 'em up against the stuff sticking to Kerry's record - INCLUDING the Swift Boat vets - a group of America's REAL heroes, who went through the tortures of hell - and then got denigrated by Kerry. AK her about how it was ok for Kerry to meet with the enemy, while still a Naval Officer, in Paris 3 times. (Which makes him, constitutionally ineligable, by the way, to run for any elected office, even dog catcher, let alone Senator or Commander in Chief.)
Ask her if Bush DID miss a physical which he didn't need - and THIS is the worst thing they can claim against him - then she is beyond hope and why you'd call someone that brain dead friend is maybe a question you need to ask yourself.
IN additional, pull up a photo of young Lt. Bush - I don't know how to post photos here - and side by side it with a photo of Kerry at the same time - That alone should tell the story.
I am one sick old gramma about these blatant distortions -
Ask her is she wants a Pres. that will continue to protect us from terrorists or one who has now revealed his "plan" - treat the terrorist as just a nuisance, like gambling, a matter of arresting them when you run across one and taking him to court. One who believes as his wife said, that we should just get used to them and learn to live with it.
HELLO
Sorry - gotta go sit in the sun and regroup! Oh - and you might want her to think about what these fine men who REALLY were heroes and were THERE with Kerry,, testify to? (And I say again, all they against Bush is that he may not have taken an uneccesary physical? - after years of flying extemely dangerous fighter jets - who was in more danger of looseing his life - for years - that Kerry in his 3 short months in 'nam. That's probably a record in itself: One of the shortest combat tours of Veitnam) http://www.washtimes.com/national/20041011-123955-3725r.htm there's SO much more - but if none of this will penetrate the brain-wash shield, don't waste time or breathe.

This is a relatively good article, but the reporter still manages to slip in a dishonest "poison-pill".

From the article:

But the group has become a lightning rod in recent weeks. In late August, Benjamin Ginsberg resigned his post as legal counsel for the Bush campaign when it became known that he was advising the Swiftees as well. Under scrutiny, several statements made by former "crewmates" of Mr. Kerry have been recanted.

The second sentence is factually correct, but misleading in that it fails to point out that what Ginsburg did was perfectly legal and was no different than what half-a-dozen DNC lawyers are still doing for Moveon.org and other 527's. None of them have resigned. I'll concede this is a minor quibble, however.

The third sentence is where the real problem lies. Author Stephanie Mansfield is flat-out lying about statements having been recanted, and needs to be confronted with a demand to either show proof or issue a correction. She is engaging in a tactic to gradually erode and discredit the Swiftvets that has been adopted by the MSM after they failed to silence and discredit them via an all-out frontal assault back in August.

They have now started a low-key approach of just casually dropping little one-or-two-line comments (lies) in various stories wherever they can. These comments are dropped in a casual, assumptive, matter-of-fact tone of implicit certainty, without discussion, and they then quickly move on to the rest of the article or story, whatever it may be. The impression they try to give is that this assertion is something that has already been definitively settled - no further discussion needed.

This is the same method that has been used by the MSM in the years since the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas to completely flip public opinion about who was telling the truth then. In 1992, after the hearings were over, polls showed that 70% of Americans believed Thomas and that Anita Hill was lying, but now that percentage has been almost reversed. This has been accomplished simply by stating casually, even off-handedly, repeatedly for over a decade, in every media mention of the issue, that Anita Hill was "wronged" by Clarence Thomas. Sheer repetition has done its work.

Stephanie Mansfield is just one of many media rats who are employing this strategy of low-key subversion of the Swiftvets. Even Fox News and their staff are guilty of it, and Britt Hume no longer stops the discussion to correct these statements. They let them slide and count on the short memory-spans of their audiences to enable them to gradually rewrite and re-establish the "correct" version of history.

Perhaps I appear to be a bit overly-obsessed with this, but I believe it is imperative to confront the MSM on certain of these seemingly minor matters. As a result of recent blows for truth struck by the online community and New Media, e.g. Rathergate and the Swiftvets ads, there seems to be a bit of smug euphoria in many quarters that I believe is unwarranted as of yet. The MSM has been rocked, and they've been wounded, but their resources still vastly exceed ours and they will fight back. Other threads on this board have already discussed how they are closing ranks and stonewalling. I believe that it is necessary to aggressively attack and exploit the cracks that have been created in their armor now, at every oportunity, and a good way to do this is to confront them on these dishonest little stealth bombs such as the ones in this article.

Either that, or he is just stark raving mad - also related to his POW days....

Three Big Lies About the Vietnam War (2-Tape Set)
Speaker(s):
Michael Medved

The Vietnam War ~ America's longest, most polarizing conflict ~ continues to divide Americans and to cast its shadow on contemporary policy debates. In the Presidential race between Bush and Kerry questions about the candidates' record during the Vietnam era (the President's National Guard service, Kerry's strident protests as leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War) often overshadowed discussion of more timely issues. These impassioned arguments about the Indochina conflict often confuse young people with no personal recollection or knowledge of Vietnam. This closely argued presentation makes clear the essential elements separating those who fought proudly (and bravely) in Southeast Asia from those who self-righteously opposed the war here at home. Michael Medved designates the "three big lies" that continue to poison our understanding and analysis of the war, arguing against common contentions: 1. That the Vietnam War represented an unconstitutional conflict based upon American imperialism and a desire for world dominance 2. That the military lost the war on the battlefield, and in the process committed horrendous atrocities 3. That anti-war protestors became the true heroes of that turbulent era, and their efforts ultimately brought peace to both the US and Indochina Each of these three claims is a lie and a slander on America and her military. In this all new presentation, Michael Medved exposes the truth that's often hidden by the lies, and shows why and how distortions and outright falsehoods still wield their malevolent influence on too many of our fellow citizens.
