Hello everyone.
I have not been around much lately, to the point where I am guessing that many of you are going "who the heck is this guy". That's fine, I am just one of the crowd. However, I am just one of the crowd who has been around a long time, and have been quite involved in Free Republic for some time. I have been a participant, and I have been one of Jim's moderators.
I am here today to ask you all to make a contribution to the forum.
I have watched as this forum has grown from a little nook of the internet, to where it makes a difference. It is a place where conservative arguments are honed and hashed out, where people can make contacts with others on how to make a difference, where people can notice something wrong with a news story and raise it up the flagpole. It is a place where we can help raise important matters above the media filter.
Free Republic matters.
I spent the better part of three years working behind the curtain with Jim Robinson. I have not always agreed with every decision he has made, and we don't see eye to eye on every position. But I saw enough to know a few things. He cares deeply about this country. He abhors bigotry. He cherishes freedom. He tries very hard to balance the goals of providing an open forum for conservatives of varying viewpoints with keeping out those who want to disrupt and those who want to pretend or play games. He does a very good job- not a perfect job, but as good as I can imagine anyone doing.
He has assembled a very fine volunteer staff. The qualities I just described Jim as having, they do as well. They make mistakes, as do I, but work hard to keep them at a minimum and put in significant time into making this forum as fine as it is. And they do it in an environment where people do go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible; not everyone wants there to be a successful Free Republic.
Not everyone wants there to be a successful Free Republic-- a line I just stated regarding how people come in and try to disrupt the forum. To play Moby. But they would be just as happy if the forum would go belly up. It won't though. We have gotten to where the forum generally does not have difficulty raising the money set as a goal each quarter. Sometimes it takes a short amount of time, sometimes, it takes a bit longer. But thanks to you, we make it.
That does not mean that you should leave it to someone else. If you have not made a donation, ever, but do use the forum and enjoy it, why not make a $5 donation? Be a part of it. If you really enjoy it, why not make it a $10 one? If you are comfortable economically, why not toss in a little bit more?
And for those who still could do more, why not find politicians who share the same conservative values as your fellow Freepers, and make a donation to their campaigns? Coburn. Thune. Burr. Bush. We can make a difference this election.
It matters. Your contribution matters. Get involved. There is work to be done.
