IMHO..if were infrared it would have to have direct beam to the other device. The edge of the podium would have blocked the beam. The beam is only a matter of feet. I would guess a wireless device with cell technology. Then some one could be across town and feed him information. This is one wild card. Could there have been a camera feed right off Lehrer(sp) papers then viewed by a Kerry aide, then questions sent to Kerry. (tin foil hat firmly inplace)

Some more from LGF:

After viewing this video:

http://www.boston.com/news/special/politics/debate_video/sept29/continuous.html

"A friend of mine swears she saw a hearing aid, but AFAIK Kerry is not hard of hearing (not in that sense, anyway).

At 2:43 he turns his head toward the president and there is SOMETHING in his right ear.

This suggests a radio link to his handlers, does it not?

I stopped the stream and made a full-size screen cap and then cropped his head and blew it up nearly 3x. There is definitely something in his right ear."

Then this observation:

"This was touched on in a previous comment, but I think the big thing here was his comments at the opening:

KERRY: I know I can do a better job in Iraq. I have a plan to have a summit with all of the allies, something this president has not yet achieved, not yet been able to do to bring people to the table.

We can do a better job of training the Iraqi forces to defend themselves, and I know that we can do a better job of preparing for elections.

'All of these, and especially homeland security, which we'll talk about a little bit later.'

How does he know what is coming up later in the debate unless he had a list of questions prior to the event????!!!"

Very interesting. On the homeland security quote, perhaps Kerry was just meaning he would get to it later because it obviously would be a question.....you would not have to have them in advance to figure that out. But, perhaps he did get them in advance.

On the first issue of an earpiece.....anybody see this?

I am stuck on my parent's old 1997 computer and can't view a dang thing....can't wait to get back to my new one at school.

I think you are right. It is probably a handkerchief. He would have hid it better if he was cheating. I wouldn't put cheating past him, but I will be surprised if this goes anywhere.

Why would he need to cheat if he's already excells at debating?

Because (a) he was presenting his new positions on Iraq and (b) spouting Michael Moore-onic propaganda that he is not as familiar with and (c) to have a checklist to assure he got all his pre-programmed points across.

Remember, a few days before the debate, at NYU, Kerry debuted this new set of positions that makes up his "final" stance on the Iraq war. He needed to make sure he remained on topic since whenever he ventured away he made mistakes ala "global test".

I don't want to download that program -- is it available for Windows Media?

Could it have been a PDA?

Could it be a Blackberry in which a team of their best and brightest are emailing tips or even the next question?

That might even explain his constant fake looking writing and head shaking.

In the big FNC capture pic, it is clearly a notecard. No doubt.

In that case he was making a presumption because the question he'd been asked was on Homeland Security but he wasn't ready to answer that question yet so he spewed some of his garbage, venturing into Iraq, and then said (to the effect) "we'll talk about what you actually asked me later, I'm sure"

If it was a handkerchief his campaign would have said so already. I think they know Fox has the video and the second they issue a blanket denial, Fox hits them with the goods.

Not uncommon for a man his age to wear a hearing aide.
