She hated Clinton and was as vocal as whe was allowed to be. Now, Laura can just about say whatever she wants because everything has already been thrown at her. She just doesn't care.

it isnt that Bush didnt defend himself it is that he didnt attack Kerry.

KErry said what was probably the dumbest thing ever spoken in a debate, on par with Fords "Poland isnt under Soviet Domination" gaffe.

Kerry essentially said the US, Iran and N Korea are all moral equivalents. Bush just stood there. I could have destroyed Kerry on that and Bush ignored it. That's unforgivable.

HELP! I'm wanting to find a pic which was likely taken sometime when Kerry had his "peace meeting" in Paris. I 'think' he was shaking hands with N Viet leader/leaders. I've been looking and looking, checked your Fr page, links, etc., google images, etc, etc, etc. I seem to recall you posting it but dang I can't find it. Think you may recall and can direct me to it? Thanks in advance if you can!!

It is hard to believe there was such a huge shift in less than a week. Gallup had Bush up 52-43 as of Sept 26. Other polls (besides Newsweek!) showed less of a change. I think perhaps Gallup is wrong. Or maybe they have tried to move a bit to the left to counter criticism they were favoring the GOP too much?

That 100% number is very unusual too. There are always some undecideds. Are we sure this is even official? I don't see any mention of it on Gallup's site, nor on CNN.com or USAToday.

Look people...the Washington Post, & I believe the LA Times
are just two of the papers so far that received letters PRIOR repeat PRIOR to the debate saying what a GREAT job Kerry had done & he won the debate. To the editors credit they printed this in their papers & condemned this practice. I would not trust these polls for at least a week and if you are like me NO TV NEWS or NEWSPAPERS ANYMORE UNITL THEN. The Dems are trying to get to those who support the Gop and discourage us..

"Wouldn't it be tragic, and almost a death sentence for the US, if, in the space of sixteen years, a rapist/draft dodger is/was President, and four years later a pacifist/traitor is elected?"

Yes, it would be, but it isn't going to happen. Have faith.

As much as I'd like to dismiss this kind of poll, I'm not ready to disbelieve it. Bush's performance in the debate was miserable. Kerry's was impressive. As fickle as it makes some voters look, that is enough to sway opinion. The presidential race is a beauty contest anymore.

I do hope this was a wake up call for the Bush team. I hope they regroup and realize how dangerous it will be to go into another debate so completely unprepared.

There were way too many missed opportunities in the last debate. Bush could have put this election away in the first debate. Instead, he gave the Kerry team its best hope for momentum yet in this race.

I hope Bush gets it together and hits the homerun we were all looking for last Thursday.

kept yelling out attack lines and talking points while he was stumbling over his words, it was disconcerting, to say the least.

I felt like he needed to be pulled out of the ring and have cold water splashed on him, while getting a couple wake up taps on the cheeks, all the while somebody telling him "Come on, you're the man, you are the President of the United States, don't let this two bit punk beat you up.."

Also, Cheney needs to do well in the VP debate, otherwise the Kerry people will gain some real momentum.....

I agree. If Cheney can shut Edwards down on Tuesday, it will kill any momentum Kerry got out of the first debate. Then, we have to pray Dubya comes out fighting on Friday.

Bush got annihilated in the debate because he didn't use any of the bullets in his gun that could have devastated Kerry, especially on security and foreign policy. This is clearly the only area that Bush has any strength and he blew it big time.

Either he really is just not very quick on his feet or Rove and/or Hughes told him just to soft shoe it and get through the night. If he had come out attacking Kerry on his treason, cowardice, lying, and voting record, this thing would be over now.

Unfortunately, if Bush ends up losing, it may very well be because he let himself get killed in the first debate. Look, I don't mind losing, but at least go down swinging. Sheesh.

Bush needs to come out swinging Friday, without looking too angry or desperate....but he needs to speak more fluently and look more at ease. I'm still shocked at how poorly he did when you compare it with his performance on O'Reilly the week before.

We've already caught three? polls manipulating results. Gallop supposedly has a higher reputation, but I want internals.

Here are the facts as we currently have them.

Bush still at 50% approval?

The two tied at 49%

Only one undecided.

Something doesn't register right with only 1% undecided.

Well, Bush should fire his debate prep team. This is a eff up of monumental proportions. He lost 5+ points because of this. Say good bye to judges and any sort of mandate. I guess in the end it really was a mediocre campaign.

Check the Rasmussen data. Bush has actually gained a fraction of a point since the debate but they did say that the sampling was from Thurs-Sat and that the Fri-Sat period showed a one-point bounce for Kerry.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

I am pretty sick of this whole Bush lost thing. Bush did about what everyone expected and so did Kerry. The dems have just been pushing the idea that he won so hard and so soon that everyone is just believing it. Kerry's big line was that he misspoke about funding our troops ? What a joke, the people of this country are not dumb enough to fall for that crap. Kerry didn't misspeak he failed our troops as he always has.
This reminds me of all the criticism Bush has had daily since coming into office. It doesn't matter to anyone that 99% of it has been proven wrong, after a while people just remember that there have been a lot of questions about how Bush led this country. It is all BS but unfortunately it works sometimes.
Just today some Dem was on Fox saying it was Bush's fault that we didn't pass the energy bill because the repubs have the congress. It doesn't matter that it has been held up by a dem filibuster. People only know that it hasn't passed. The cynicism on the dem side is unreal.

There are people who believe Bush blew it. That doesn't mean they aren't good Conservatives, that's ridiculous. I am a good Conservative and I think Bush blew it. He was tired, he wasn't prepared and frankly, I expected more from him. I don't think it's unreasonable for us to expect that if we're out working hard for this guy to be re-elected, he would make sure he was well rested and prepared for the most important debate of his political career, do you?

The VP debate is a hard one to predict. Cheney has the ability to come across with more gravitas than Edwards but I don't think we should forget that Edwards is very smooth and, as a trial lawyer, very good at making arguments in front of an audience. Edwards task will be to keep from being too smooth and smarmy. I don't know if he can do it but it will be interesting.
