Democrats Fear 'October Surprise'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In the presidential campaign's closing weeks, Democrats are bracing for an "October Surprise," an event so dramatic it could influence the election's outcome. The capture of Osama bin Laden, for instance.

It's part of American political lore: the party out of power worries about a last-minute surprise engineered by the party in power. Now that October has arrived and the election is just a month away, speculation is rife among Democrats that President Bush and political mastermind Karl Rove have some tricks up their sleeves.

"I assume that it will be something," said House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California. "We have to be ready for that."

Senator Kerry, in the first debate you mentioned a book you had written in the 1990’s, but you did not mention a book you wrote in the 1970’s. The cover of the book showed a group of Vietnam War protestors holding an American flag upside down, in a satire of the Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima during World War II.

What I would like to know, Senator Kerry, is could you please explain to the American people what is the significance of flying the American flag upside down, and why you felt compelled to have this image on the cover of your book?

When O'Reilly asked Bush what happened to the WMD, he was very quick to say he didn't know

Thats not exactly true. Factor asked him if Bush knew where they were, not what happened to them. Technically, Bush was truthful he doesn't know where they are now - the present tense, just as the question was asked. But I believe Bush knows generally what happened to them and is there is a god, before the election it will all come out.

not that they're still looking or that they might still be found. I just can't believe that they haven't been able to determine where they went.

I'm with you...I happen to believe that we know exactly where they went and we'll be able to prove it soon. We had Iraq under a microscope for months prior to our invasion. Saddam moved his arsenal and we will or we already have found it.
