WASHINGTON (AP) -- In the presidential campaign's closing weeks, Democrats are bracing for an "October Surprise," an event so dramatic it could influence the election's outcome. The capture of Osama bin Laden, for instance.

It's part of American political lore: the party out of power worries about a last-minute surprise engineered by the party in power. Now that October has arrived and the election is just a month away, speculation is rife among Democrats that President Bush and political mastermind Karl Rove have some tricks up their sleeves.

"I assume that it will be something," said House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California. "We have to be ready for that."

As opposed to what? Nothing?

What an intellect....

So they are praying that we don't capture OBL.

Is it possible to hate these people any more?

What, no mention of the most infamous October Surprise in American political history; The Dems finding out about Bush's DUI and getting the Maine legislature to change the law to allow them to go public with it?

Larry Flynt is up to something!

Well, I doubt that he's "up" to anything, but he can be a pain in the butt from his wheelchair. What a freak.

Was there an October surprise in 2000? I sure don't remember one.

With regards to the absent senator Kerry, the month of October hasn't enough days to inject an infinite array of surprises.

Rove has been keeping OBL in his guest room for the last year. He will introduce him to a joint session of congress where OBL will denounce terrorism and convert to Christianity.

In the presidential campaign's closing weeks, Democrats are bracing for an "October Surprise," an event so dramatic it could influence the election's outcome.

I suspect that the democrats are fearful that Kerry will tell us exactly where he was in Cambodia that fateful Christmas Eve? Or that he will sign the form 180 to release all of his military documents? Or that he will simply open his mouth and spew words that contradict one another? I any case, Hillary is loving it!!!!!

Yeah - OBL could be one of them. Some guy also called Hannity the other day, and said there is in existence a tape of sKerry burning a US flag then taking a leak on it, from his protest days. If that came out, I wouldn't want to be in Kerry's vacinity, for fear of my own safety.

There's only one problem with this. Finding out John Kerry is a treasonous reprobate is merely redundant. There's no surprise, there.

Of course, something juicy, like finding out he's sleeping with Barney Frank, now that would make my day (but wouldn't surprise me).
