(CBS) Uncommitted voters who watched Thursday nights presidential debate said John Kerry won the debate against President Bush, and most of those voters improved their opinion about the Democratic candidate because of the debate, according to a CBS News poll.Forty-three percent of the uncommitted debate-watchers picked Kerry as the winner, while 28 percent chose Mr. Bush. Another 29 percent said it was a tie.
Kerry also made significant inroads on ratings for his potential to handle Iraq and on likeability, two areas where he had been trailing Mr. Bush.
Immediately after the debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally representative sample of more than 200 debate watchers assembled by Knowledge Networks who were "uncommitted voters" voters who are either undecided about who to vote for or who have a preference but say they could still change their minds.

And you KNOW just how much we trust cBS?
so kerry gained 10 percent, and bush gained 12 percent...
so that means kerry won?
or gained?
really...
Yeah, See BS "news". Real reliable.
Well, unless I got this wrong, it seems like Bush still got the bigger bounce among undecideds (19% - 31%) ?!?
Kerry gains 10 points, and Bush gains 12, but they spin it as a Kerry victory.
So9
Erm.. if I read this right, Bush recieved a MUCH larger bump than sKerry. Nice to see MSM hiding this, again.
CBS bullshit is still allowed to be posted here?
The significant numbers here are that 57 percent say that Kerry did not win the debate....29 percent said they were tied and 28 per cent Bush won. Another words not that mush advantage for Kerry!
We-e-llll. Let's look at the deltas.
Kerry goes from 28% to 38%. That is a pickup of 10%. Bush goes from 19% to 31%. That is a pickup of 12%.
For those of you visiting from the Daily Kos or DU, that means that for every 10 voters that Kerry has gained, Bush gained 12.
Bush was ahead to begin with. He picks up more new voters than Kerry did. This is good for Kerry how? For that matter, how could those 28 voters out of every hundred that supported Kerry and those 19 voters out of every hundred that supported Bush be described as "undecided"?
Use small words to explain, 'cause I just an ol' boy from Texas.
Gain of two for Bush.
I agree. That's good news--Kerry didn't win. He performed better than Bush, but still failed to win.
"KERRY Pre-Debate 31% Post-Debate 38%
BUSH Pre-Debate 19% Post-Debate 31% "
Bush improved his position w.r.t. the undecided by a greater margin.
say there are 100 of those guys.
before the debate Kerry gets 31, after, 38 a gain of 7 votes
before the debate Bush gets 19, after 31, a gain of 12 votes
ergo: Bush gained 5 more votes than Kerry did of those 100 undecideds who exhibited a preference after the debate. And the article says they favored Kerry more?
Bush is ahead in the polls. He turns MORE of the undecideds to his side than he had before. And that is GOOD news for Kerry?
I guess they are just practicing, so that when he loses, they can say he really won, using inventive Math . . .
And that's exactly what Kerry got.. "mush advantage". :)
We're not supposed to examine the numbers, just accept the headline. LOL
Personally I wonder at the stacked numbers stating Kerry so far ahead pre-debate but the trend shows Bush eclipsed kerry by a 1% point.
Sorry, cBs. Not fooling anyone here.
