Republicrat vs. Democan

Get past the bluster and bile, and the two products of privilege who each want to be the next President aren't all that different. How sad

Last night was Debate Night USA. Perhaps you tuned in. But what did America really see after months of endless campaigning, hundreds of millions of dollars lavished on attack ads, and enough cheap talk (as my mama used to say) to drive any sane citizen off the nearest bridge?

You don't agree? Let's look at the Tale of the Presidential Tape.

Bush is 58. Kerry is 61.

Both went to New England prep schools (Bush to Andover, from which both his father and Kerry's father graduated. Kerry to St. Paul's).

Both went to the same college (Yale).

Both joined the same secret society (Skull & Bones).

Both served in the military. Bush was an officer in the Air National Guard (a good way to avoid Vietnam combat). Kerry was an officer in the U.S. Navy (usually a safer alternative than the Army in those days).

I filed a case concerning the participation of both Gene McCarthy and Lester Maddox in the Presidential Debates of 1976. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, with only Benjamin Hooks, later to become President of the NAACP and then an FCC Commissioner, accepted our position that any candidate on enough ballots to be elected, should participate in debates. So that aspect of this article I thoroughly agree with.

However, I deeply resent the first part of his article that in essence says that wealthy Yalies with graduate degrees should be disqualified from becoming President. I don't object when the voters, if asked, decide that I should never be President. But I resent it when an Editor for Business Week unilaterally condemns me to that fate.

That's cool. The thing is, those opposed to the war won't get anywhere by electing Kerry. Whatever he says.

Supreme Court nominees?

While I agree that Bush is vastly preferable to Kerry or any Democrat, and while I am praying for his victory, I am not all that sanguine about what Bush will do re: the Supreme Court.

His willingness to support CFR really leaves me in doubt of his fidelity to our most basic Constitutional principles.

If he nominates a coupla Scalia's or Thomas's, that's A-OK by me.

Me too. But I am not that comfortable about him actually doing that.

uh . . .

unimpressed with the article, typical of the naderites. That's OK, though. Naderites tend to overgeneralize a point to show their "uniqueness". I still support "W".
