LOCKHART: DEBATE CONSENSUS A 'DRAW'

Unbeknownst to Kerry adviser Mike McCurry, a C-SPAN camera quietly followed McCurry as he found Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart on Spin Alley floor and asked him his impression of the debate. Lockhart candidly said to McCurry , “The consensus is it was a draw.”

He needs to come out with much more confidence and less hesitation and answer with greater command even moreso now when the debate switches over to domestic issues (the Democrats traditional home turf).

True, but Kerry's got to sell a tax increase. I'd rather be Bush selling a tax cut. Liberals may think all Democrats want programs, programs, programs... but many are working class who want the cut.

There are many reasons why Saddam was a threat: his invasion of a neighboring country, his repeated ignoring of U.N. resolutions, his continual firing on our reconnaissance jets, his use of gas on his own people, the mass graves, violation of human rights, capability of biological and nuclear programs, supporting/financing terrorist activities, harboring known terrorist groups, are just some of them.

Kerry states that if left alone, Saddam could have been controlled by sanctions and inspections. We know that is false because that's exactly what had been done for 14 years and he wasn't getting weaker as Kerry claims, he was getting stronger. In fact, if Mr. Kerry wants an example of how Saddam was getting stronger, all one has to do is look at the U.N. Oil for Food Program, and how Saddam was able to manipulate the program, the U.N. and the rest of the world, and also managed to put 10.1 billion dollars in his own pocket. Now, is that the action of a weakened leader? Of course not. And as we've seen, the U.N. was a willing accomplice in this criminal activity.

It wasn't until we liberated Iraq and the rise of free newspapers there, that the story of the Oil for Food scandal finally saw the light of day. Had we sat back and allowed things to be status quo as John Kerry suggests, Saddam would still be bilking the system, and his nuclear and biological weapons programs would probably have been reconstituted. Tonight Kerry said that if President Bush is reelected, we could expect more of the same in Iraq. But if John Kerry had his way, Saddam would still be in power, he'd still be playing cat and mouse games with weapons inspectors, he still be nurturing terrorists, thousands more Iraqis would be ordered murdered, and Saddam would be laughing at the world all the way to the bank.

BTW, I've also said all along I believe this race is going to be close until Nov. 2nd. Then I think it's going to break wide open.

You're in good company. I've heard some smart people say the same thing. The Bush campaign just needs to be sure they come out hard tomorrow and keep the mo' going their way.

I admit to having 3 manicures.

Ex-girlfriend was a makeup/hair/nail/massuese.

Add 2 pedicures too.

Been over 10 years. I'd never pay for it, nor actively seek it out, if offered, I'd gladly accept however.

I will say that hand and foot massages are very nice when done by a 6ft blonde who knows what she's doing.

A draw? But, but, Lockhart has been spinning on all the shout shows that Kerry won!

Surely you're not suggesting that Lockhart would flip flop?

Maybe Jennings got scared by what happened to Rather. Hopefully he's learning not to be so obvious in his bias!

KERRY WAS GETTING A MANICURE

I knew it. The first thing I said to my spouse was the Kerry's hand looked freshly manicured. Probably got it while he was getting "de-oranged." He definitely had rosy cheeks -- and, obviously, a better make up staff than Gore did for his first debate.

You have a valid excuse. You merely used manicures as a form of foreplay.

Kerry needed much more than a draw tonight.

Wasn't Sadam giving the families of Palestinian suicide bombers money?

Is that aiding and abetting terrorists?

Is one person a weapon of mass destruction if they have evil in their hearts and a bomb strapped to their body in a crowded area of innocent people?

Joe Lockhart just admitted their man won't be President. The Kerry Campaign did not get the KO they needed to turn the race around. The mainstream media will spin it as a close race but that's strictly for show. If they admit its over, there's nothing to talk about in October. (And its already October on the East Coast).

THE PROBLEM IS....a big part of how the UNDECIDEDS see this...has to do with atmospherics.

If they really looked at issues.....they would not be undecideds at this point.

"Looking like a President" really is a big part of how the debate comes off.

Sure...it may have been a draw....but Bush could have finished this tonight. Instead...Kerry...sounding pretty...was enough to give his folks some fire. And now its gonna come down to two debates (that were supposed to favor Kerry) and everyday of the rest of the campaign.

Bush did well enough to hold his own...but that should never be the target goal.

Bush tapered off at the end. One has to bring more than an hour of statements...to a 90 minute debate.

In the next two debates...Bush has to avoid the trap of being defensive. He needs to ignore some of Kerry's statements. He can still point out where Kerry has made a bogus statement...but he can't let that take up all of his time.

He still needs to sell himself.

After tonight...we are now in a tighter race than we were yesterday.

I disagree. Bush did a lot better tonight than a lot of people are giving him credit for. :)

The left had already preplanned to spin hard that Kerry "won"

Also the debate question were setup to put Bush on the defensive

However I think Bush gave of a sense of carring more 'weight of the world"

While Kerry is just flipping out ideas just to be contrary taking the ease copout to say I'd do this I'd do that

Bottom line Kerry want to bailout and go back wards..... Bush is out to the finish the job

The media want you to come back next week to watch the 2nd debate. Bush won well on substance.

I like your views better!

I am hoping that, by telling it straight, Bush keeps a 4 point lead.

The next debate is a Townhall.

BUT HE HAS TO HAVE ENOUGH TALKING POINTS TO FILL TIME.
He can give a rebutal to Kerry...but he can't spend all of his time on it.

He has to avoid spending all of his time being defensive.
