Kerry is always saying he has a plan and he can do better. Then he critcizes Bush but never details his plan. With all his talk of the UN you'd think he was running to be it's president instead of the US.
Kerry was better on style. Because of his inconsistencies, Bush was better on substance. It was a draw in my humble opinion.

I'm with you 100%. It would be a setback. I don't care to go through it, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I guess I'm just frustrated because there were several oportunities for a Bush homerun tonight, and he missed them.
Maybe Bush didn't miss them. Maybe he chose not to hear them because he wasn't addressing Kerry, he was addressing the American people. See post 2,602 and my response 3,417.

My take on what the average undecided took away from tonight:
- Kerry is good at debate-style argument,
- Bush looked far less confident than expected, (far too many longish pauses)
- Kerry was better-prepped,
- Bush "knows this job" and world leaders, (said it too often, though)
- Kerry is not a nice person,
- both were almost overly repetitive with their main themes,
- Kerry says he'd build a coalition but he insulted several world leaders tonight...
Overall:
- Kerry won solidly on style,
- Bush won marginally on substance, (in the average voters' eyes, not an informed and attentive FReeper's eyes, mind you)
- overall a tie on verbal jabs,
- another nudge for Kerry since he has been flailing in the polls and was looking like it would be over... most expected him to lose it all tonight. He breathed a bit of life into his campaign, at least until the next debate.
The next debate, Bush will be a more polished, but Kerry gets to argue domestic issues. Call it a tie. The last debate, Bush improves more, and takes a marginal victory, making it a 1-1-1 final score... However, with Bush improving each debate, Kerry is losing momentum yet again, and that continues through Nov 2.

Cute reply, but a little too cute for a newbie.

And the President succeeded in framing Kerry as an indecisive person when what we need is decisive leadership ... nukes for Mullahs, global testing, and that wishy-washiness are the three biggies from the debate. The Bush team will handle the other incidentals, like the list of lies told by sKerry tonight, and the lack of ANY substance from sKerry on issues.

LMAO..."I was ante meridian before I was post meridian"
It seemed like that little mis-speak..oh hell...LIE that JK told was simply laughed off by the media. Its as if they figure he must really be tired if he can't remember when he said something.
Why not start listing all of his lies...oh, yeah. "Media bias" and all that.

There was a commie named Kerry
Whose face was so long it was scary
He said with a grin
While draging his chin
If I Am Elected the terrorists will all be merry I like the sentiment, but the meter in lines 1 and 5 is attrocious. First line needs an extra syllable somewhere before "commie"; either "There ONCE was a..." or "There was a mad commie...". The last line is suitably anapestic but two feet (six syllables) too long; I don't see any good remedy unless you want to include a self-effacing jab about the meter: "If I am elected I must be respected; I'll do nought but talk and at actions I'll balk, so the terrorists will all be merry."
Not to be pedantic, but metrical problems are a pet peeve of mine.

I am 31, and now that I can see 50 up ahead, it does not seem so old to me anymore. I admire your optimism. I hope that you never let the years bring you down. :)

My older son is 31 (my younger 9). It's easy to be optimistic with them and you coming after me. :^).

They didn't see it in 1992 so what makes you think they'll see through it anymore clearly today? Because of 9/11 and Beslain (sp) that's why
We are in a war with monsters who kill children and do not have the luxary of getting the permission from the French to fight it.
It is not the economy, it is our survival that is at stake and the American people realize that.

Actually, my thirteen year old daughter made me feel better. For extra credit at school, she was to watch the debate and write a short report on who won, and why. She watched the debate with two of her classmates in a seperate room from me. My wife and I never talk about politics at home, so her report was not influenced by anything I said. Anyway, part of why she thought Bush won was, and I quote from her report "it seems like all John Kerry does is put down Bush, but George Bush never says anything negative about Kerry." She then says "Kerry always says that his plan if he wins is so much better than Bush's, but in my opinion, all Kerry says is negative things."
