Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
I ain't that smart, and I could have killed Kerry tonight. Layed him out flat!
You're a pastor and you are panicking. Oh ye of little faith.
Yes, of course Lubyanka was the KGB prison, that was his point. But it is not on Treblinka Square. It is on a square once known as Dzerzhinsky Square, now known as Lubyanka Square.
Oh good grief, get a grip already.
Excellent post. I agree totally
Excellent post. I agree totally
Freep the MSNBC Poll!!!! DNC there already....
My problem isn't that this will turn the election; it's that it won't. I agree with Bill Kristol that Bush could have landed a knockout blow against Kerry tonight and locked the election up.
But I think Bush did what he needed to do. He didn't drool, or shout obscenities, or call Kerry a "big poopyhead." I think it was a draw, but that's OK for Bush.
I share your concern. Kerry was inconsistent in his answers to a few questions, but Lehrer didn't call him on it and nor did GWB; I suspect many viewers probably didn't notice.
Agree with your observations. I'm puzzled at the president's apparent lack of preparation. He should have absolutely nailed Kerry in this debate, but seemed very hesitant.
Now for the $64,000 question: After this, can anyone tell me just what the Heck is Kerry's Iraq policy?
I agree. Bush caught more voters with honey while Kerry offered vinegar.
Kerry's big victories in this debate are all negatives in the Jury Room. He lost votes. And if his camp and camp followers overhype his "victory" -- boy will he lose a lot more votes.
Yer right...IN this fight, George kept leading with his nose...His over repeated phrase is "this is hard work"...May be true but kerry made it sound like it will be easy for him...
George never attacked Kerry...George was sincere and right but that won't convince anyone riding the fence...
I feel blue, too.
Bush was very good on O'Reilly earlier this week - assertive, well-spoken, and looked like a leader. Everything he WASN'T tonight. What happened? Does he have good days and bad days? Was he intimidated by Lurch (I find that hard to believe).
What this really underscores, for me and obviously for others here, is just how important we feel this election is - consciously or not, we were really hoping to see Bush put Lurch away... to knock him out... to take out more of the element of risk that these lying RAT Socialist Anti-American creeps will take over the country... we didn't get that, by a long shot.
No wonder it's not a happy night.
The President WON this debate...he was fumbly...the split screen was not flattering to him...Bush took some hits...but he touched on the honesty of his heart with the "missy" comments...and Bush, truly killed in his summation....the honesty, the IN YOUR FACE, honesty --which we, as Americans, totally respect, even if we disagree we will honor the opinion of the person who speaks so honestly...the summation by Bush was what will carry into the homes of American...and it won the debate the for the President.
I'm trying to look at the debate objectively and Kerry was more suave and smooth so he will get the slim win. I can't think of one line by either that anyone will remember a week from now so I don't think it will move the polls much at all. I think most people that aren't hardcore either changed the channel or turned it off. My wife got bored after a half hour and went to bed.
I dunno, I think Kerry dumped so much B.S. the President didnt know where to start. I think overall he did well, though. At least he threw some of Kerry's flip flops in there.
The average Freeper could have done much better.
too many nervous nelllies here.
Kerry still isn't likable. He's the boston flailer, throwing around accusations and 'plans' to see what sticks.
Bush simply had to stand up and respond to the questions, be likeable, and remind the people that even though moveon has been calling him the devil incarnate for the past 3 years, he's still the person they want in the oval office.
Relax everyone. Get some perspective. Micro analyzing every little comment isn't how the target audience works.
