Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
Joe Biden brought up DeGaulle in his DNC speech. It's a way of invoking JFKI and not Chirac.
Rove/Powell's decision to play nice to France and not explain their perfidy coming back to haunt Bush.
W is coming across as knowledgeable- -- Kerry is talking in big grand ideas and W is very specific and showing he is the MASTER of global chess.
Speaking about how China needs to be there to pressure NK, brilliant. SHows he is VERY cunning- W showing how he is a fox. Kerry showing he can only talk in big overreaching concepts with no nitty gritty.
It's nice to know that Lurch would be able to end nuclear proliferation in four years. (/Sarcasm)
Yeah, I noticed that too.
Trying hard to be non-partisan here, at best for Kerry, this debate is a wash. Kerry needs much more than a wash. Bush doesn't need to deliver red-meat attacks. He already has the votes of the people that would eat that up.
I think bush won the debate. Not by much, but by enough.
If i drank, i would be pretty darn looped by now if we had chosen "north korea" and our drink phrase
Kerry says he's gonna take on Russia too
Bush looks like the teacher and Kerry looks like the student that thinks he knows better!!!!!
Full moon? Gives them something to say? Anyway, don't pay it any mind. Trust your own senses. We really don't know, for sure, how this will play ut in the voting public. FWIW, I think GWB is doing fine, and Kerry is not. The debate doesn't score like HS forensics.
Notice the smug look on Kerry's face. Every time he finishes the last 15 seconds of his answers with as many points as he can. He's spreading out the ground that Bush has to answer on.
Kerry is good, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a disingenuous politician with no real policy except whatever best answers the question for his audience.
Yeah, Dubya missed a LOT of chances to clean Kerry's clock tonight. Double-damn! :(
It is obvious Kerry had the questions beforehand. He can't even answer straight at a news conference ordinarily. The press and media are determined Bush is going to lose. They gave him the questions.
Great news from Tradesports. Putting your money where your mouth is means you're going to be as objective as you can be.
I've only followed debate here. Taking out the DU trolls 25%-30% of Freepers feel the Pres is losing to greater or lesser extent. This is not good news if his goal is to solidfy and grow the small group of undecideds. All seem to agree that Kerry's style is superior, but his content is filled with lies. That may be true, but in debate uncovering lies is the job of the opposing debater. If Pres. Bush can't do that then he can't win the debate.
Amen sister...what a bunch of faithless wiennies..
rock on W. you smoked him more than he has smoked you and Kerry has said a few really bad soundbites that will bite him in the ass
Yup. He shore did.
"And by the way, why do many of the doom-n-gloomers on this thread have names that this Free Republic veteran of six years have never seen before?"
GREAT POINT! I was wondering about that.
But you know what? They can make us feel down or worried or whatever...
But it doesn't change how I feel about this President, and how I KNOW a lot of non-freepers feel about him, and getting a few dozen freepers bummed out on a debate thread... well... it's a long way to November. :)
It won't change a darn thing, in the end.
If anything, it will make Republicans even more likely to get out and vote.
Special Memo to GOP'ers planning the 2008 debates:
Stand really really firm on who to allow to moderate these debates.
I've had enough of the Jim Lehrer - Bob Schieffer BS. Every 4 years, it's the same thing.
There have got to be some qualified, truly non-partisan moderators out there!
