There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
It looked like some of his make up melted off his cheek bones. He didn't come across as comforting either. Negative, negative is all I took from him. As a woman he did nothing to sell me he could protect me.
There was probably a lot he said that needs review but after 15 minutes I started tuning him out.
I never hailed Gore as the winner in any debate in 2000.
But in this debate I say Kerry won.
And polls are showing I am right. I wish it wasn't true, but it is.
Ok, I am wrong. Where did I come off saying something like that? I'll never burst out with my first take on something again without checking the other opinions. I see the light now.
Dictionary
pif·fle ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pfl)
intr.v. pif·fled, pif·fling, pif·fles
To talk or act feebly or futilely.
n.
Foolish or futile talk or ideas; nonsense
I watched the whole thing and do not share your reaction. In the last half of the debate, IMHO, Bush had the "doesn't anyone have a fly swatter?" look. To me, Kerry looked like a petty and annoying pest. Too bad Reagan already used the "there you go again" line.
He did not look weak or defensive on the camera shots. He looked like he thought Kerry was BS-ing.
Bush was much better in reacting to what Kerry said than Kerry was in reacting to Bush.
"Join us in a grand diversion."
"Osama doesn't get to decide how we defend."
Kerry:
"I didn't say six months; I said six months if..."
Bush:
"What's he mean: passes a global test?"
LOL. Okay, I'll concede that point.
...;)
Meg, don't you agree that Dubya does better in the town hall setting?
The Hienz/Kerry kids were not there. I said to my friends "Look, no Kerry kids! Bush has a family!" Kerry's kids are jetsetters, and your right, Teresa did drag Kerry off the stage.
If you only knew! ;)
Bull.
I have been switching around the stations and have heard several commentators who observed the EXACT same things I have stated, so don't even try it.
I had my own debate standards coming in, they were conservative, and the President knocked it out of the park. Broke my expectations biggie.
What impressed you most? The stammering and the stuttering or Bush's expressions of complete frustration while Kerry was speaking?
Give me a break!
I came into this think Bush should win big-time. But he came across as very unsure of himself in the end.
I dunno but it hurts!
So what's the general feeling about the debate (without me having to read this hugh thread)?
I know which personality I'm speaking to.
One of the ugliest personalities on FR ever. You're a bad man, pushing bad agendas on FR.
Now, if "Fufkin", whomever that Godly entity is, wanted to headbutt you into next Tuesday, I'd say he deserved his lofty status. And, boy, could he do it.
WhineR. Because your behavior on this forum warrants a smackambeatdown.
Oh, make no mistake, my vote is for Pres Bush and nothing tonight changed my mind on that. And I agree that Kerry's "PLAN" for anything mainly consisted of harangues about why the President's plan was wrong.. but contained no DETAILS (even when asked explicitly by Lehrer) about his own plan.
Heres the one problem I have: most of the "effectiveness" of this debate will depend on how "swing" or undecided voters react to what they saw and heard. And I, for one, cannot possibly imagine what might be in the head of someone who has lived through the last 3 years and has seen the President act decisively to wage war on the terrorists and has seen Kerry flip-flop and waffle and pontificate, and who STILL even at this late date doesn't have a firm opinion on who to vote for.
Did W manage to convince a wavering Kerryite tonight that W is better on the war on terror??? Who knows??? Why wouldn't that yoyo have ALREADY been convinced? And if he wasnt convinced so far, what could possibly convince him now??
I dunno... maybe we W supporters are being too tough and maybe W's message and demeanor struck the right notes with the huckleberries who still haven't seen through Kerry's bullspit veneer?
.... I better be careful... I hope none of them "undecideds" are here now..... if you are: VOTE BUSH FOR A SAFER AMERICA FOR YOUR KIDS !!!
You seem to be flipping out. Sorry about that.
Well, posting obscure odd-ball phrases as responses is one thing. Showing how they apply to anything I posted is another.
By the way, even FOX News is agreeing with what the other news outlets have said and what I posted. That Bush looked bad and frustrated in the debate. Looks like your response is "Foolish or futile talk or ideas; nonsense" and I am right.
Bush looked bad tonight. All the networks are saying Kerry won. Wake up!
