There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
Yes, like a laser beam . . . and his lines are memorable. SShort, concise, simple, heartfelt. Kerry was smooth, but I can't remember what he said. It's a blur. That is the difference. Bush did what he needed to do. Perhaps even better.

The American people WILL see the truth. Rest easy.
Another Bush hater weighs in with a professional, non-partisan take.
I hope to God you're right. I just expected Bush to be more in charge. He should have been. Kerry is a flip-flopping phoney while Bush is a man of conviction. How is it that Kerry looked so confident while Bush looked unsure of himself and nervous? Yikes!
No, it's not obvious at all. The target audience for this debate was women. Kerry came off as a blowhard, he has been shifting all over the place, yet he stood there and said, with a straight face, that his position has always been the same. Dubya spent the day comforting hurricane victems, Kerry spent the day getting a manicure. Women KNOW Dubya is a strong leader, yet he allowed Kerry to attack him unfairly and just stuck to his guns. Kerry looked like a bully blowhard to women! Dubya won the audience he was aiming at.
The President lost on articulateness and scoring "points." Kerry is an expert talker, and fills up every second with words.
On the other hand, Kerry appeared rude and insulting. This is off-putting to many people. The President appeared calm, unangered and reasonable.
The President did look tired, possibly because he spent the day visiting with hurricane victims rather than getting a manicure. Kerry looked angry and repulsive (sorry, that is my partisanship, but he isn't attractive at all).
The President was sincere. It shone from every pore of his being. His stammering was no doubt due to his being appalled at the lies being told.
President Bush did what he had to do in this debate...he held his own. It wasn't the slam-dunk I would have hoped for, but he did ok...and ok is all you need when you are the incumbent.
Now I am turning off the TV, since Richard Holbrooke is on.
Thank you for your comments..Do you think perhaps the Bush campaign has some soundbites to attack in the coming weeks?.....I do..."Global test" and not signing the Global Warming Treaty...Kerry is running for President of which country?
Did we watch the same debate? Of course President Bush pointed the fact that Kerry did not vote for the 87 billion to help supply the troops.
In my opinion, I thought President Bush did very well. Kerry started off with his voice cracking and his hands trembling. But he seemed to shift from I will be a strong president and pursue the terrorists but then defamed the coalition.
why do they keep having this moron richard holbrooke on
these shows ???.....what an annoying and arrogant piss ant
he is.....good fit with hamster boy.
By Sunday, the MSM will be forced to admit that the Election (and kerry) are both a lost cause for the dims. kerry was awful.
I am watching a DVD recording of the debate right now, and kerry has made many, many horrid slips. His statement about slander and maligning of our soldiers coming home from Vietnam, and that it would NEVER happen under his watch... when the REALITY is that HE was a MAJOR FACTOR in that satanic misjustice against our Troops!!!
kerry was a MISERABLE FAILURE tonight!!! President Bush was HIMSELF, and it don'r git no better than that!!!!!
LLS
I pray to God you are right.
Also, W is an "early to bed, early to rise" type - so he was operating past his bedtime - so to speak - I think that may be why he was tired - besides the fact that he "worked" today rather than being "pampered" at the spa....I was disappointed, but I think I am hypercritical. I wanted him (W) to knock it out of the part...and with the questions posed, I don't think that was in the cards....

Well, Fufkin, I call it the way I see it. Something you don't. Deal with it.
I think that Newt had it right earlier tonight. He said that ALL President Bush needed to do was to IGNORE kerry, and focus on his MESSAGE to the AMERICAN PEOPLE. He cut through the bull$hit tonight like a laser beam!!!
I hope you're right. I've asked the same question how the average voter saw this debate? I guess the polls may bear it out.
Thanks for the link; interesting info.
My favorite line? "How are we going to 'invite' more nations into Iraq now...Please join us in a 'grand diversion'?"
LOL!
does anyone have any thoughts on the balance of questions
that lehrer asked ?.......was he fair ??
