CALIFORNIA FREEPERS: Help get rid of "F DUBYA" license plate on Santa Monica liberal's Volvo
DFU - heard on Larry Elder show | 9-2004 | dfu

Posted on 09/29/2004 10:52:49 AM PDT by doug from upland

California FReepers, I need your help.

Yesterday on the Larry Elder show, a caller reported seeing a license plate in Santa Monica on a Volvo. It said "F Dubya". Then, the purported owner of the vehicle, a jerk named Phil, called in to the show. He was really proud.

After a few minutes, Larry handed Phil his lunch. He claimed to be well-read but Larry showed him to be a hate-filled Santa Monica liberal fool.

Let's do more than hand him his lunch. I spoke to the DMV, and if they get more than one letter, they will look into taking back a plate that citizens find offensive. The woman with whom I spoke, understood how the plate could be offensive. An "F Kerry" plate would not, because Kerry is a real last name. No one has the name Dubya; the only reference anywhere is that it is the nickname of our commander in chief.

On the show, Phil said that he couldn't believe they allowed him to have the plate.

(Californians only) Send letter to:

DMV Registration
Attn: Headquarters
P.O. Box 942869
Sacramento, CA 94269

Note - I would particularly like to see Santa Monica postmarks on letters. Raise your hand if you are going to send a letter.

Thanks. Anyone from Santa Monica aboard yet?

I'm in Venice and proudly shuttle around in my SUV past hundreds of Kerry and anti-war posters with my Bush/Cheney sticker. This past weekend at the Abbott Kinney festival there was actually a Bush/Cheney booth! Brave souls--I know they took some abuse, since Venice is truly a bastion of angry liberals. It is sad--my husband and I have a 1 car garage and have chosen to park mine in there until the election because we know that some angry liberal will vandalize it on the street.

Regarding the license plate I agree that it is offensive, but would common law-abiding citizens know what it means? Don't we get on a slippery slope when we start inferring what 1 letter represents? If we judge plates on what is inferred rather than what is plainly stated?

I thought personalized plates were not supposed to have profanities on it.

It is still not on a state issued license plate. Clever, I like it.

Let the Secret Service sort it out if you see it again. Free speech is one thing, threats are another.

WHY DID THE CALIFORNIA DMV LET THIS PLATE GO THRU IN THE FIRST PLACE? MOST STATES LOOK AT THESE VANITY PLATES BEFORE THEY GET PRINTED AND DECLINE ANY THEY DEEM OFFENSIVE.

Make a guess, LOL

This IS the Kool-aid Capital, the LEFT coast, LaLaLand, you know.

What's really funny is the guy claiming to be 'Phil the owner' was probably lying. Unless he could give the make, model and color of the Volvo it was probably just a caller going for his 15 minutes.

This is all such a waste of time. Let the guy have his plate and look the fool. Spend the time registering new voters or making calls for Bush than writing letters about something that you heard on the radio that is probably not true.

Doug, this makes us sound like crybabies. I'm not going to request it myself, but I think you should have this thread pulled.

Is there such a thing as "bad publicity" in politics? I would guess that seeing the plate A: tells us something about the owner, and B: causes viewers to lean more towards Bush.

Why? I support free speech. Hate to disagree with you on this issue. I know and respect what you post. Just get pictures of the plate and car and publish it in front of massage parlors, the fungal clinic, abortion clinic.

I totally agree with you.

I've met Doug in person and I like him but I think this is misdirected. I would hate to see that Volvo-driving dork become a martyr because of any DMV action.

Screw it. I went right to the governor's office. Somebody in the DMV allowed this, let's find out who he is.
