Targeted, Truthful Ads Gutting Kerry Campaign Written by Chris Long Monday, September 27, 2004

George W. Bush spent the first months of the political campaigning season like a boxer in a huddle, covering up and weathering a barrage of blows from the upstart. The Kerry/DNC ads were a scattershot affair, alleging anything and everything, flitting from accusation to spectacular accusation, not unlike the flip-flopping candidate.

Indeed, the Bush campaign seemed to obeying the military axiom of ‘concentration of forces’: gather your troops for decisive blows in the face of a scattered, approaching enemy. The hundreds of millions of dollars expended by the rich fat-cats and 527 group supporters of Kerry have come to naught – but the purveyors of the ads cleaned up, charging nice fat fees for churning out the ads.

Liken what happened to Kerry as a mugging, committed by a president who attacked the flop-flopper in a dark alley, cutting his political throat and leaving the heiress predator bleeding in the gutter. Taken to the political hospital, Kerry’s pals paraded in and out of intensive care, mouthing platitudes about catching the mugger, for which Kerry is grateful, comforted by the thought that, gee, it’s great to have friends.

It appears more convincing than ever that the political operatives packed into the Kerry campaign by the Clintons are benignly (perhaps malignantly) degrading the campaign, convinced that what worked for the Clintons will work for the Heinz-Kerrys.

One need look for further than today’s edition of The Times Of India for a bell-weather of the Kerry campaign:

“NEW YORK: The jury was out for a while, but Teresa Heinz Kerry has been declared a resounding liability by women.

In a scathing attack, feminist writer Naomi Wolf claims the ketchup heiress is having an emasculating effect on John Kerry, her second husband. "Listen to what the Republicans are hitting Kerry with: Indecisive. Effete. French. They are all but calling this tall, accomplished war hero gay," she writes in New York magazine.”

If Indians are indeed paying attention to Naomi Wolf’s perceptions of Teresa and the Kerry campaign, the election is over. Bush has won. Now Hillary gets her chance. Teresa seems to have little trouble finding the bar in every stop on the campaign trail – that is her real problem. It also seems a plausible explanation for her uninhibited free associations of every topic under the sun. After all, you don’t get filthy rich without knowing something, do you? Teresa wants to tell all us all about it: how to live, what to think, who the societal scumbags are, what ‘idiots’ there are amongst Elite-Media. Obviously the personalities, marriage and relationship have “issues”.

So obsessed are the Kerry campaign operatives with “energizing the base” that all else is ignored. Recall that Clinton received a scant 42% or so of the vote during the ’92 elections. Have today’s political operatives forgotten that fact? Delivering up 42% of the popular vote for Clinton may have seemed like a commendable achievement then, but this is now: Perot or his equivalent is not in the race. The Carville-Begala team is making the same mistake they did during the Clinton campaign, albeit in the absence of a spoiler like Ross Perot – after all, it was Ross Perot who gave us the Clintons. Nader is no Perot but he did, after all, give us George W. Bush. The Clinton operatives will deliver up 42% of the vote again. That’s a landslide for Bush.

The Clinton operatives appear unaware of the fact the dynamics of any campaign may be different from previous campaigns. They are applying the one-size-fits-all rule where circumstances do not warrant, likely not having the perception to realize that (hey!) there is no third-party candidate this time that will be much of a factor. Launching lawsuits to keep Nader out of politics will get the Liberals utterly nowhere fast.

Indeed, whoever told Kerry to go on TV and attack the credibility of Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi is either insane or intentionally sabotaging the campaign. Great! Now Kerry has shown friends and allies he can even flip-flop on them. What on earth could Kerry’s handlers have been thinking, if they were thinking. That must have been a trifle disconcerting for the French and Germans.

To every Kerry tirade during the upcoming debates, all that President Bush has to do is smile wryly, and say “Flip-flop”, “You may have the remainder of my time to speak, John…”

To the Republicans I say this: keep using Kerry’s own words against him, urge Teresa to stay on the campaign trail and assure the president keeps managing the war with a consistent, steady hand. Every negative development in the war between now and the election will only convince the electorate even more that we need George W. Bush’s steady hand on the helm.

There has been a lot of speculation since the "Where's the bar?" episode...

Please help my failing memory.

Heinz often makes statements that suggest she lacks impulse control. The search is on for an explanation... drinking is plausible.

Interesting. Not long ago, the headline was "Heinz Kerry Is Part of the Draw in Race"

http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0804/163433.html

UPDATED - Monday August 02, 2004 10:49pm

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) - Forget polite sensibilities. Many women along the Democratic campaign trail are telling Teresa Heinz Kerry to keep speaking her mind. To them, the sassy, gabby wife of presidential candidate John Kerry (website - news - bio) is a key part of the package they want to put in the White House.

These women don't care that Heinz Kerry doesn't always follow the etiquette rules for potential first ladies. Like when she marches up to a persistent reporter and tells him to "shove it" or when she tells Republican hecklers that they want "four more years of hell."

Dawn Davis of Muscatine, Iowa, excitedly greeted Heinz Kerry as the tour came through her home state Wednesday. Davis says she isn't ashamed to acknowledge that she's been known to tell people to shove it and go to hell. Just thinking about all the criticism of Heinz Kerry was enough to get her going.

"Women should not feel that they should kowtow to anyone else's option," Davis said in a rapid-fire rant. "I told her, you keep speaking your mind and don't let them change you. They just criticize her because they don't have anything else to hang it on. And that's the truth."

In her adult life, Heinz Kerry has become a powerful woman accustomed to having the leverage to speak her mind. She is the head of the $1.2 billion Heinz Foundation and has a personal fortune totaling hundreds of millions to more than $1 billion, depending on who is estimating. Heinz Kerry usually campaigns on her own so that she and her husband can double the ground they cover in the campaign. This week, she's been by her husband's side as he tours the Midwest by bus...

It seems that, in the space of about 6 weeks, she's gone from box office draw to boat anchor and once again proved the old adage that money can't buy everything.

They are applying the one-size-fits-all rule where circumstances do not warrant

That's typical DemoRatSpeak. One size, one idea, one theme, because after all, that's all the little people can understand. One-size-fits all healthcare is one of their favorites, the world's biggest most unwieldy HMO run by the government.

As for TeRAYza's ability to find the bar at every campaign stop, some in this forum have been saying since the beginning that she's on something, as she consistently lurches from side to side, staggers, slurs, shrieks--and of course, makes little sense.

And the candidate doesn't look quite healthy, there's some grayness behind his eyes, some pit that he cannot seem to emerge from. Maybe it's his physical health, maybe psychological. Dear God, for the good of this country, please don't let them into the White House.

I've suspected for a long time that TH-K has a problem w/ booze...lots of little indications along the way of irrational and just plain stupid behavior. The latest was the thing in Arizona when she was asked something about Kerry being behind in the polls. Her response: ''Who cares? One state is not a whole state.'' Forget flubbing up the state/ state thing. No one in their right mind would say Who cares? That's like saying, ''Let's piss off everybody who lives in Arizona (and Nevada & New Mexico & Colorado &....).'' This woman is First Lady material? I think not.

IMHO, unless you have specific knowledge to the contrary, you are taking gross liberties with the 1st amendment to attack this woman. Let's not lower ourselves to the level of DUers - she's not running, after all...

Distasteful or not, she's either drunk, on something or a lunatic. I prefer the most distasteful option of believing all three with just a smidge of pomposity, stupidity and a dash too much liberal fanaticism.

Hey, she wakes up every morning remembering she's married to John Kerry....

Something about having to live with a Democrat makes one want to forget---They are self-medicating.

Methinks Ter-ay-zha's heart just really isn't into this presidental thing. After all, why would she want to move into cheaper housing in a predominantly minority neighborhood?

I'm stunned! This is just what America needs .. some drunken sot giving her unwanted opinions to a room full of world leaders. America will be a laughing stock AGAIN!
