Good to hear they were able to talk Dan down off his chair to receive his accolades. I wouldn't want to see him hurt. Good, too, to hear, they feted him with some gala. We all know who were likely present. We all know their names (and, lately, now, their faces). We are not surprised by this (are we?). Let them mass together and support Dan. Defend the indefensible. Anyone with a streak of honesty and common sense knows what's what right now. The rest are either lying (to themselves or others) or willfully, blissfully ignorant. In either case, our cause (new media types, bloggers, Freepers, etc.) has not changed. We are to remain vigilant. Search out the truth, expose the false. Hold feet to the fire. Draw attention to the news-worthy. Shun the profane and vain babblings of those who practice misdirection.

Truth be told, I don't know if I want Dan Rather to be retired anyway. As long as he's sitting at the big ol' Black Eye's newsdesk, all of America will be mindful of what many have been saying for so long--MSM is biased, it's irresponsible, it's ethically challenged. If, though, he is cleansed from the scene, CBS can begin to reclaim their [alleged] mantle of journalistic integrity, begin to fool the sheep again, and the cover-up begins again.

This was three days before the report on Drudge that this topic would be the next CBS target.

Let 'em run it.

Who's going to believe CBS's reporting in a story about forged documents?

In the WAPO story, he said on 3rd Mar. 2004 he was in Houston, TX to pick up the memos, then drove back to Baird, TX, stopping along the way to make copies and burn the originals.

But, it seems the day before on Mar. 2nd, 2004 he bought a cow at an auction in Fullerton, Ne. As another Freeper pointed out, he sure was a quick traveling man???

"Lot # 50 Meyers Black Destiny 806A Female $2500
Meyers Blk Coalminer 728 X Meyer Ranch 400
Buyer: Bill Burkett, Baird, TX"

Fullerton, NE is one hell of a long ways from Baird, TX.

If Burkett bought that cow in Nebraska, rather than having an agent buy it in his name (which is not uncommon), you have a real get here. But it up in the blogosphere and see what falls out of the tree.

Same here. O'Reilly has consistently proven himself to be an opportunist who will change his views at a whim to try and keep everyone trying to put his "is he Rep. or is he Dem. puzzle together". Personally, I could care less who or what he is, because I definitely do not identify with O'Reilly.

I agree, if we can keep Rathergate in the news in the next two weeks, it will (1) lower the temperature and trim the sails of the other MSM networks in anti-Bush pieces and (2) yield more balanced moderation of the presidential debates.

We need to keep the heat on, so that every MSM journalist and reporter knows that we are making them accountable 24/7/365.

O'Reilly is the Dinah Shore of the 21st Century. Remember Dinah's afternoon weekday show? She'd agree with every guest day after day, smiling for the cameras and contradicting herself from one day to the next on issue after issue. She made any viewer look forward to the toilet bowl cleaner commercials.... as does O'Reilly.

My problem with O'Reilly is not that he is not right on most issues (he is), but that he has no core, no ideological foundation to his positions. Worse, he cannot close the sale on anything because he is caught up in this cocoon of "pragmatism."

Iowa Granny knows a bit about livestock auctions. Do cattle buyers normally purchase in person, or do they buy based on breeding lines over the internet or by phone?

Where's the media?

They're too busy coordinating the "Iraq is a quagmire" theme with the Kerry campaign to pay much attention to the earlier scandalous and illegal campaign coordination with seeBS.

"O'Reilly is lookin' out for you!"

LOL. Oreally is looking out for himself. He's not going anywhere with this story because he figures he can gain some credit with the MSM by ducking it. Same with the Swiftees.

Bill likes the idea of being invited to Manhattan cocktail parties, with the REAL power people.
He can preen to himself about how that's "Not bad for a guy from Levittown."

Aren't there some freepers in NE who can find out if he was actually there on March 2nd?

Although it is already out there, Freeper hispanarepublicana is the one who deserves the credit, as far as I can now tell, hispanarepublicana found it first.

STICK WITH ME HERE:

--According to this Washington Post story, "He says he was handed the documents at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 3 by an unknown intermediary. "

--According to this website:

http://www.ebersale.com/salesresults/gonsior/

"The Gonsior Reynoldson Joint Production Sale was held Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at the Gonsior Sale Facility near Fullerton, NE. A strong gathering of commercial cattlemen as well as purebred breeders from across the nation selected top breeding stock. "

~snip~

HIGH SELLING HONORS:

Lot # 50 Meyers Black Destiny 806A Female $2500 Meyers Blk Coalminer 728 X Meyer Ranch 400 Buyer: Bill Burkett, Baird, TX

If you buy a bovine in Fullerton, Nebraska on March 2, doesn't it take you a while to get to Houston, Texas, by March 3?

He SURE GETS AROUND for someone so sickly...hmmmmm

In this day and age, cattle can be purchased by video conferencing. Another possibility is that someone else was present at the sale and purchased the cattle for him, either an Order Buyer or a friend/neighbor.

I am aware of at least 3 senarios where he could have purchased cattle at this sale without being present, and I know very little of the cattle business. My specialty is Pork.
