Get ready for the October surprises (more on CBS Rathergate & Kerry campaign connection)
World Magazine ^ | Sept. 25, 2004 | Bob Jones

POLITICS: Staff shake-ups. Debate one-liners. Unsubstantiated rumors. Dirty tricks. Terrorism. It must be October, and this must be an election year.

"I called the guy,"(Burkett) Mr. Lockhart admitted to The Wall Street Journal. "We talked for three or four minutes about the swift-boat controversy. He believed our response was inadequate, that Kerry should push back about the Vietnam experience. I thanked him for his advice. End of the story."

But it wasn't quite the end. Mike McCurry, another Kerry adviser, later said Mr. Lockhart told campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill about the conversation, and she, in turn, relayed it to the candidate himself. That trail to the top provided fresh ammunition to the Bush campaign. "The fact that CBS News would coordinate with the most senior people in the Kerry campaign is troubling, and it is a stunning revelation that raises serious questions," said Scott Stanzel, a spokesman for the Bush campaign. "The Kerry campaign should come clean about their involvement."

Any proof of a coordinated effort to smear the president could turn the memo scandal into a Democratic version of Watergate, potentially dooming Mr. Kerry.

So why isn't someone investigating this connection?

Where is the newsmedia?

Where's the media? If, you mean the entity which provides information and uncovers facts on behalf of the population, you're in it. If, though, you mean those entities which parade themselves around as the grand repositories of truth, integrity, honesty, professionalism, high standards, I believe they are trying to talk Dan Rather down from a chair he is precariously teetering on, his suspenders drawn tight around his neck, tied, at the other end to a beam in the ceiling.

The Republicans should be relentless on this issue. They have the right and duty to crush the Kerry campaign and CBS for this.

Are you telling me that if say Fox was doing a story on Kerry's dishonorable or general discharge from the Navy being up graded to honorable in the Clinton administration and was caught putting their source in contact with the Bush campaign, the rest of the media would investigate Fox and the Bush campaign..... Oh never mind.

Seems to me like the reporter was practically advising the Kerry campaign to contract some psuedo terrorists attacks to make GWB look bad. Just a few trains, planes, malls and Kerry can engineer it to make it look like Bush failed. He could blame moveon.org!
You have to remember that extremeists liberals and terrorists are on the same side here. They both want Kerry to win. (The enemy of my enemy is my friend.) The mind reels.

Nah...when Dems get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, Pubbies end up resigning. Recall the 2 Senate memogates this of recent memory. Not one Dem lost his/her job but at least 1 Pubbie did. Historical data favors the Dems. Remember the Clinton scandal and did in Newt Gingrich and his successor, neither of whom were Democrats, while Clinton survived and finished his term, however limply.

Not just the Repubs. Where is O'Reilly's investigative reporting? He's had his two to three weeks (his own words)to investigate. What happened to Drudge? Are all the conservative investigative reporters in the blogosphere?

I hope not. That's not a knock on them, but the blogosphere just doesn't have the trumpeting qualities of an O'Reilly or a Drudge.

Good to see Rush on the job though.

CBS and DNC are staying in contact over the next attack: Bush used forged documents to support his Iraq/Niger/uranium statement in the State of the Union Msg. DNC lawyer and fmr W.H. counsel Tom Quinn let the cat out of the bag on Wolf Blitzer last week in a debate with Joe DeGenova. While being cut up by DeGenova's arguments for a special Prosecutor to investigate Memogate, Quinn said

"Forged documents?? Let's talk about the State of the Union message if you want to see forged documents."

Blitzer cut him off, but the words hung there. This was three days before the report on Drudge that this topic would be the next CBS target.

I actually think that a terror attack pre-election will all but sew this thing up for Bush. Certainly anything on American soil will rekindle in people those same feelings we had after 9/11. I believe America (unlike Spain) will take it as a demand by a group of thugs to go for Kerry in the election, and Americans...well, I think there are enough of us that would still say, "In your eye, Ahmed," and pull the lever for Bush big-time.

"The Republicans should be relentless on this issue. They have the right and duty to crush the Kerry campaign and CBS for this."

The GOP should be ruthless in taking to task the business-as-usual collusion between the media AND the Dems, but "compassionate" RINOs like Racicot and Frist continue to set the tone.

That means they will wind up apologizing for "making a big deal about this."

Don't even go there, the O'Bloviator's investigative skills does not extend beyond examining lint plucked from his navel.

Yeah. They "SHOULD" have been relentless on a lot of issues i.e. the Sandy Berger scandal. Anyone heard anything about that lately? Even Rush said yesterday that he doesn't know what's going on in the Sandy Berger investigaion.

Where is Lee Atwater when you need him?

Big fat disgustingly biased, do-nothing-in-3+-decades Carl Bernstein scoffed at the idea this is a new Watergate. He said the real story is what the 2 candidates did in the Vietnam era. If this had been a Republican campaign involved in the fabrication and coordination with CBS, he'd be gearing up big-time for a full-scale "investigation", finding a brand new Deep Throat or creating one.

No one investigates a Democrat seriously. That is just the sad reality.
