A rare viewing of a Saturday morning Today Show demonstrates that the more things change, the more they remain the same. Gone are Katie and Matt, replaced by Campbell Brown and Lester Holt. But liberal bias is forever.
First up was an excerpt of a Tom Brokaw interview with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, who recently met with Pres. Bush. In the course of the interview, Brokaw managed to sneak in his own opinions on at least two occasions. First, he stated as fact that "the outcome in Iraq is still very much an open question and a matter of doubt."
Browkaw then stated that "even if matters in Iraq are resolved, there won't be peace in the middle east until Palestinians are treated more fairly" [paraphrasing here, but that was the thrust of his statement]. Pervez was only too happy to agree.
Then it was the turn of Campbell Brown [daughter of a Dem Louisiana official convicted of corruption] to interview John Harwood of the Wall Street Journal regarding the latest NBC/WSJ presidential poll.
Brown seized on every opportunity to find a silver lining to the very dark clouds looming over the Kerry campaign. She pointed to the fact that the Bush lead had sunk to 6%. Then she harped on one internal [out of undoubtedly many that were favorable to W]. Apparently 55% of people think the situation in Iraq is worse than portrayed by W, and 37% think he isn't telling the whole truth about the situation there.
"How much of a problem for Pres. Bush is this?" asked Brown, with false concern, or better yet, in the hope that indeed it is a significant problem for W.
An objective reporter would have looked at the totality of the poll and said "any immediate post-RNC bump has settled down, and W still seems to have a solid lead, and the internals suggest that Americans trust him by huge margins over Kerry on the issues they consider most important. Is the race effectively over?"
But Campbell was determined to portray W as the candidate on the defensive.
Harwood gave reasonable answers, essentially saying that no matter what poll you look at, one thing is clear: W is leading. He also mentioned that the Dems have staked the campaign on hitting hard on Iraq from now till Election Day. Campbell naturally fretted as to why Kerry hadn't begun these attacks earlier.
All in all, solid evidence that even when Katie's away, the liberal mice will continue to play at Today.
Rare-collector's-item Saturday morning Today Show ping.
You deserve a medal for sitting through this.
Thanks as always, governs, for your fortitude and marvelous reporting skills.
I'll gladly settle for a lifetime supply of Nexium and a W sweep.
While you were suffering through the Today Show I was watching FOX and Juan Williams said some remarkable things. He said Bush had never lost a debate and that his mother commented to him after one of the Bush/Gore debates that she felt bad for Mr. Bush in what he had to put up with from Mr. Gore. I about fell out of my chair.
Nothing new there.
I caught Juan saying a similar thing earlier in the week. He mentioned that his very elderly mother, who has some cognitive impairment, is a lifelong Democrat (surprise!), which added to Juan's shock at her comments.
I don't think that at heart Juan is a bad guy. But I sense that he feels some pressure, as the token liberal, to carry the left's water, and winds up saying, at times, off-the-wall things that he doesn't completely believe.
Hmm, come to think of it, I've never seen Brokaw and Bob Novak in the same room. Could they be the same person?
I have noticed about Juan, that, when he does an interview/analysis by himself, he is fairly sensible. When he is on a panel, he seems to go liberal-nuts.
Yup. Just when Juan has me nodding my head and thinking he's a fair-minded lib, he suddenly lets loose with a stream of eye-bulging Michael Moore-like rantings. It's like some weird form of Lefty Tourette's syndrome.
Yeah, and these Jews overwhelming vote for Democrats. If the Jewish people have not seen the media/liberal bias against them, by now, they never will.
I didn't know there was a Saturday Today Show.
Then, instead of saying ANYTHING about Iraq, Brokaw goes to the Palestinian problem--as if the war in Iraq caused that. I almost slapped my TV again--but decided to be calm and rational and just turn the darn thing off!
Campbell Brown's father is in JAIL?? Or Was in Jail? HAHAHAHA must have been pretty bad since Louisinaa is so corrupt!
He did express his own amazement--but in a way that was bemused and not at all belittling.
Folks, it's crunch time. There are only a few days left before the 30 day limit for registration. Please call the campaign and volunteer to register voters from GOP districts in battleground states. And then volunteer for GOTV efforts just before and during the elections. The alternative is condemning your family and neighbors to life under the opposition.
Tactics trump policy every single time. If Bush is preferable, then he's preferable and the die is cast. We can persuade the majority of Americans of that, but if they don't vote it won't matter.
He was in the "Pokie" but is out now. Former Insurance Commissioner in Louisiana and big time Democrat (crook).
I don't thank you nearly enough for this service you provide for us. Please accept my apologies and my thanks. You're the best! :)
At 8 pm EST tonight, The Discovery Channel will air the EMMY Award Show for TV News and Documentaries.
