I heard a Florida resident being interviewed on tv. He said "I don't know what we'll do with our weekends when hurricane season is over." Have to admire folks who can respond like that when they've been through so much.

Ha! I never took mine out after Francis! This place is ripe with missile hazards because there are still piles of debris from that storm.

Checking in from Fort Lauderdale...east of US-1 but west of the Intracoastal. We plan to ride it out at home, as we have every 'cane since 1956. The house was built in 1925, so it's survived a few.
Wish us luck. We'll monitor FR as long as we have power and then as long as my laptop's battery holds out.
Good luck and Godspeed to all in Florida!

What are you guys doing in Boca Raton??? Did you and Dansangle move there and I didn't even know it... or is this just a vacation?

Laura Mercy! Not this again. NVA is heading to daughter's place in Brandon. Hope all my FReeper friends stay safe. We're looking to the rest of the FReeper Nation to keep the pressure on while we scramble for safety, electricity, and "web tone."

Bump from N. FL, boarding up this morning.

1) they totally screw up the prediction like the did with Charley,
The Charley prediction was about twice as accurate as average. The area Charley hit received hurricane watches and warnings at the appropriate times. If Charley had gone down the NHC forecast path EXACTLY, the area Charley hit in reality STILL would have experienced hurricane-force winds.

Gotta love our governor- yesterday he said he feels like he's living in the movie "Groundhog Day"...he is steady as a rock (like his bro!) and keeps his sense of humor.

Checking in from the north Cocoa (Brevard) area. Took the plywood down this time last weekend and now about to put it back up. This time it is staying up and I'll just stucco over it. I don't need to see outside anyways :-( LOL.

The big problem with Charley was the evacuees that ran west from the Tampa area to central FL, and then were in the eye of the storm when it changed course. There were a lot of unhappy campers here... literally.

My son attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. He drove home at the end of last term, drove back down for the start of new term on Aug. 30, ERAU closed on Sept. 2, so he drove back home again. He drove back down AGAIN when ERAU reopened on Sept. 20, got in one week of classes, and it looks like ERAU will close again at noon today. Can you get Frequent Highway Miles??
