I've been listening to Fox News and something they just said makes perfect sense...............

If any of you Florida FReepers in the path of Jeanne have friends or neighbors of the Jewish faith - please check on them. Today is Yom Kippur and they may not be aware of just how close and dangerous this beast is.

This could be a little more serious then that. There has been a lot of talk about a housing bubble over the last couple of years, and one has to wonder whether these storms may prove to be the pin that burst the bubble.

I've thought about this, but I think it would only affect properties very close to the beach. They are at ridiculous prices anyhow.

If one can get insurance it may be about time to pickup a good deal or two in the coming weeks/years.

The only thing I worry about in the aftermath of Jeanne is that the out-of-state power crews are already working the entire length of the state. If Jeanne causes much damage I don't see how they can handle it without bringing in more crews.

I've seen those. Interesting. Not sure how they would do with the type of soil in Florida, though.

Check out ICF homes:

http://www.titanwalls.com/ and click on the Titan Walls logo.

These folks built two schools in Brevard County this past year, one 16,000 sq ft, the other around 25,000 sq ft and neither school had ANY damage from Charley or Frances, although the other non-ICF schools had to close for repairs

They are getting word people are not evacuating

That's what happens when 1) they totally screw up the prediction like the did with Charley, and 2) don't let residents back into their neighborhoods ASAP after the storm.

I'm not familiar with the Jewish faith at all. Why wouldn't they know about the hurricane?

Yom Kippur, day of atonement, is the holiest of the Jewish holy days. They do not use "modern" conveniences today such as radio or television and may not be aware of the latest forecast, as they started observance at sundown last night and continue until sundown this evening.

"Thats my photo!"

LOL!

I swear, that is what we look like around here, and I'm in Inverness and we haven't been badly done to by comparison.

Our hopes, to all, for a safe journey through this one.

Out to batten down the hatches ... again. ;)

LOL! Stay away from Disney!

We can hear the fireworks at Disney from my parent's driveway. We can see them from my sister's driveway. I can't stay away from Disney. I just hope that Jim Cantore stays away.

Hey Mulder, I'm in Clermont for this one, instead of Tennessee where I belong. It should be interesting. Stay safe!

I never knew that. Thanks.

Good idea for neighbors and friends to keep them informed.

Best o' luck to you, Jan, Bob and others in our doughty freeper coven who live in and around the Orlando area.

Looks like we central gulf coasters will be lucky this time, although they're warning of higher winds and rain for tomorrow. I'm taking all the patio furniture and other yard and garden appointments into the garage for the umpty-ninth time, ugh.
