Barack Obama, unraveling in Illinois? Still leads in poll of Chicago dead voters.
One small Voice

Posted on 09/24/2004 7:09:33 AM PDT by 1smallVoice

Each day that goes by has people asking 'Where's Obama?' The democrat candidate for Illinois Senate has been MIA as Alan Keyes has cris-crossed the state of Illinois exposing Obama's liberal voting record. People are starting to hear the truth and Obama is losing support downstate.

The Chicago dead still support Obama by a large margin.

Obama is scared of Keyes. He is the type to fold. I don't believe anyone has described Obama as "brave." And he well might have some skeletons in his closet he doesn't want exposed.

What's the status on debates between these two? Regardless of what anyone thinks of Keyes or his chances, it'll sure be fun to watch him tear into Obama.

His church favors abortion?

When was he baptized?

When did he renounce Islam?

I need dates.

Keyes is an abysmal failure, and a danger to the party.

Keyes didn't hand the state over to the democrats, the Ryan twins did that.

I really don't know why Keyes is running in this race, it really makes him look like he has an ego problem. But the GOP would be absolutely nuts to let a senate seat go without even a token fight. Unfortunately, that seems to be the only fight they are going to put up. Keyes was an afterthought, the "Who cares?" candidate from the GOP.

The problem isn't that Keyes is a nut, it is just that he is wrong for the state and the situation. He should have known that better than anyone.

At least when the dems pulled this trick with Lautenberg and Mondale, their efforts weren't completely laughable.

The stupid party, indeed.

Do you know Obama's position on the questions Keyes has been asked? Wonder why? The media wants Keyes to lose and do their best to see that it happens. Been called by a poll, know anyone who has?

I don't need dates. I will not lie about him. If he says he's a Christian and proclaims his faith, as he has done over and over, I accept him as a Christian.
He is not a Muslim no matter how much you want to lie and say he is. If you believe in Christ then you accept followers into the fold.

I would not vote for him because he would not vote in a way that reflects my political idealogy.

You are a good democrat, believe whatever you are told. I was raised a Muslim but now am a Christian who believes in murdering children. My kind of Christian. The United Church of Christ is very liberal.

I was hoping that Keyes would crack the 24% barrier, because I thought he'll pull 31%. Looks like he's proving me wrong so far.

Obama was ahead by 40%, 70/30.

What are the stats now? Is there an article to go with this thread or is this thread a vanity?

There is something about the look in Obama's face, that scares me, it just seems like a look of evil....

Yes, I won't vote for Obama.

If I become convinced that FR's Keyes supporters are representative of his campaign, I won't vote for him either, as he'd be carrying the taint of a thoroughly dishonest racist. That's not a characterization of Keyes, rather several of his supporters threads.

More important they knowlegde of Obama's positions, which isn't the issue, is the factual basis of the charges.

Prove to me he's a Muslim

Demonstrate his fathers terrorist ties

Prove the charges of terrorist financing of his campaign. There are multiple felonies in there.

Demonstrate Obama's ties to terror, or even benign Muslim groups.

You'd do much better to attack his positions.

We have debates coming don't we? Keyes never lost a debate, even against all the well greased Republicans the last two times around.

At those times he didn't have the Party elite behind him, this time he does. The polling will get a lot closer before this is over. This may be the year the Chicago blacks dump the Jacksons.

You are a good democrat, believe whatever you are told.

Perhaps because she takes Biblical prohibitions against slander seriously. I’d think that would be applauded by a candidate running a faith based campaign, as well as his supporters. Can't a Republican take their faith seriously as well.

Personally, I don't believe Keyes would allow these charges to be made in his name.

I suppose it's far more fun to drop rumor and innuendo than to do real work.

Latest polls: 68-23. That's a 45% gap. Keyes is dropping like a rock. My estimate: he'll come in behind Kohn.

Some gal named Lucy sent him some documents saying this.

Are there debates coming? I don't see any reason for Obama to debate a guy that's trailing by almost half a poll. Political conventional wisdom is that the guy behind at the start of the debate is most likely to "win" the debate (ie, gain in the next poll). Now if you're Obama why would you want to risk giving Keyes a chance of evening the race by participating in a debate? Given the poll results he can easily write off Keyes as a fringe candidate (same excuse used to keep third part guys out of debates).

Keyes doesn't have the party elite behind him now. He has the Ill GOP behind him, and the process of getting them behind him showed they are anything but elite. Then he went and criticized Cheney over his daughter, so he's not gonna get any support from national.

So far Keyes is losing about 1 point a week in the polls. He started 39% back before accepting, a couple weeks later he was 41% back, last week's poll puts him 45% back. The current trend shows the polling isn't going to get closer, though there isn't much more room to fall so the trend might reverse.

And meanwhile the great "promises" of a Keyes campaign aren't happening, he isn't keeping Obama in Illinois, he isn't helping close the gap for Bush in Illinois, and it's highly unlikely there will even be a debate much less a nationally televised debate so we aren't going to get any "true conservatism" on the national stage. The Keyes candidacy is a disaster wrapped in a faux pas wrapped in a bad idea.

He wanted to debate Ryan (6? times). When Ryan dropped out he dropped down to debating Keyes (2? times).

As far as I know the debates happening are a done deal.
