ABC News has an exclusive interview with Col. Stoudt, the retired colonel who allegedly pressured Killian to cover for Lt. Bush during his Air National Guard stint according to forged documents aired by CBS News.
Stoudt says the docs are fake, he never pressured Killian about Bush and he did nothing to help Bush get into the Air National Guard in fact he was happy to have as many pilots as he could.
Sounds like the LA Times and the Arnold groping stories. They supposedly spent MONTHS on that story, and yet it only came to print in the closing days of the campaign. Amazing.
If only that was a true quote. It was fake...right? If Not, my faith has been restored!!
I have been hearing this and can offer the translation:
It means the effort to use the Guard issue to bring down GWB in the 2000 election cycle failed, so the plan was to wait for 5 years (or 4, depending on the version we're now getting) and on the eve of the election, release "documents" that would "prove" the allegations they'd been making for years.
First, remind voters of the issue during the dem presidential primary (check). Then start talking heads and the Kerry campaign "raising questions" over the months (check). Then the AP files a lawsuit to "get all the records" (check).
Even Rush doesn't get yet that CBS was not duped merely because they wanted to believe it (he just said it again!). I contend CBS had a plan with these democrats to roll this story out---most likely originally it was to come out closer to Nov. 2, but clearly this is not the result of "digging" or working a story for years. It's the unveiling of the scheme.
I wish ABC hadn't reported this before giving Dan a chance to break the story himself. [/sarcasm]
When the nation was founded, the population was small enough that a politician could speak to every voter in their state by traveling around the state. As the nation grew, mass media became necessary for politicians to get their message to the voters. This gave the mass media extrodinairy power that they have abused over the years. The new media has blunted that power by giving alternative ways to counter the monopoly on information the MSM once held. Also the voice of individuals can now be heard through the internet. We are living through historically significant times.
Oh, you're right; I remember now that they said they called them right before the show and that they told them that they sounded fake, that he didn't type, and that he didn't keep personal memos.
At this point I assume it is not authentic. See, it was monospaced, and if it was authentic, it would have been in a proportional font ;-)
/with apologies
How did this investigation help to feed a hungry child?
"I love the guy," Staudt said of Bush. "I'm so tired of this negative crap about him that I'd like to volunteer to build a barn and take you press guys out behind it and kick your asses."
I think he needs to be in the administration. Perhaps US representative to the United Nations or maybe Ambassador to France.
Serious? No way. This isn't going away anytime soon. There will be an accounting.
Please tell me that is a real quote. I'm dyin' here.
