Since we have had numerous FREEPERS in the area effected by Hurrican Ivan, I thought it would be good to start a thread for FREEPERS to check in.
Please place any damage reports, requests for assistance, etc here.
very minor effects in New Orleans. The lakefront area has some flooding around the marina, and lakeshore drive is closed. Some power outages, but those should be almost taken care of by now.
Don't do it. They're strong and have more energy than you do. Figure out a way to focus the energy into the cleanup,,, if not yours,, then somebody elses.
When I had my first Grandchild my Mother gave me a plaque to hang on the kitchen wall that said: Grandchildren are God's reward for not choking the living $#!+ out of your Teenagers.
Those sentiments are correct.
Persevere. Many of us have survived those years and are here to tell about it.

Does anyone have damage photos of Dauphin Island?
I'm so proud of my little town. We have done well in Meridian. Weather was a bit sporty, at times, but it's all good.
Our "guests" were wonderful. God love them. The super Wal-Mart on hotel row, managed to stay open 24/7. It was great. They even had their outside sign lighted, so people could find their way.
Lowe's stayed open, also, and had sold out of chainsaws. There is not one generator available in the entire County. :) As of last night, Lowes still had chains available for said saws. :)
FEMA did a wonderful job getting everyone situated and directed. The Police officers worked double time getting folks across town, to shelters, motels, churches, etc.
Our infrastructure held, praise God, and power loss was short lived. Not bad at all, for a town of 45,000. I think that 45,000 is a big stretch, but that's just my opinion. :) We tripled in citizens, overnight. :)
I'll try and get an exact head count of visitors. I'd like to know.
I think we got mostly Republicans, up here, and they are splendid people.:) Good luck to all of them.
Hear anything about the Bayou? All My paternal family lives there. I cannot get hold of anyone there.
Sounds like a nice town that pulls together. I'm glad you got through it okay.
Thanks for heading me in this direction. I'm still trying to find info on the NAS side of town, "west side". That is where our home and friends are. If anyone hears or sees anything, could you please give me a yell. And if by chance anyone sees anything on Little Flower Catholic Church/School on Lillian Hwy, also give me a yell. My 9 and 12 yr olds are very concerned about their school and classmates.
You talking about Bayou La Batre?
Okaloosa Island - Extensive flooding, some lower level and roof damage to most buildings. Bridges from Destin and FWB closed, no access to island.
MAry Ester (Hurlburt Field) - Moderate Damage, mostly roofs and trees.
Navarre - Severe Damage, most building with roof damage, window damage etc.
Navarre Beach - innaccessable, utter devestation. Said not much looks to be standing viewing from the other side of the sound -- going to take a lot of rebuilding.
Gulf Breeze - Severe Damage to alot of building, Most structures at least took some damage. Trees laid flat or ripped bare. US 98 Bridge to pensacola severely damage, partial collapse of roadway on Gulf Breeze side.
Pensacola - could not get across bridge but said Bayview drive has collapsed, reports are that most of Pensacola Beach is a total loss.

Just got a report from MY Stepsons father -- Lots of damage in Fairhope - trees down, roof gone, trees on cars, trees on houses etc. His house has a tree sitting through the living room and extensive water damage, but will be repairable
Gulf Shores is still inaccessable, he was stopped in Foley even though he has a house in Gulf Shores. Was told the house is a total loss as are most of the homes in Gulf Shores, Condos have also been severely damaged. Most Condos have lost the First floor and taken damage to the second floor and lost windows throughout the rest of the building. Said Foley looks like a war zone. Trees down everywhere. All stoplights are ripped down, roofs laying everywhere. Gonna take months to clean up and years to rebuild the area. My Brother is attempting to find a route into Pensacola and over into his customers in Alabama, but probably won't get in until tomorrow or Monday. Will send more reports if I hear anything. Stepsons dad is on his way back to Montgomery.

I have a recon unit on the way to Dauphin Island, Al. They won't return until this evening, but will post what they find out. They are driving down, so it'll be awhile before we know anything. Unable to contact by cell phone, soo, it's a wait and see.
I'll post what they saw along the way.
We lost about about 1:30 AM,it was back on by the time my husband got up the next morning(around 9:00 AM). God really blessed us. My dogs got loose right after the power went out,one came home shortly afterwards,my husband opened the garage manually and drove out into the weather to get the other one!!! He couldn't find him and the conditions were NOT conducive to driving,so he came home,and finally the mutt showed up at the doggy door that we had to leave open for him.
Tree limbs and branches all over the yard and two heavy benches overturned,big hibiscus pulled up(by the roots fortunately),but God really spared us. I drove out a little ways yesterday,and there's practically no traffic on Pass Road,a main road,which is very strange to see. Branches and limbs down everywhere.
Jackson County east of us was the hardest hit in Mississippi,we're in Harrison County.
Err, that was POWER that we lost,hehe.
Do you know if Hwy 29 into Pcola is passable? My parents are going down there tomorrow to help out our relatives.
One of my childhood friends' mom grew up there - part Choctaw, great *totally conservative* lady and a major positive influence on me personally. I have yet to visit there but Meridian is on my must-go-to list!
Know anything about the Starkville area, my farm is 20 miles west and my uncle boogied out of New Orleans to stay with his son there?
Hello! We only lost power for about an hour last night. Had power all through the brunt of the storm. Had a tornado warning in my part of Tallassee at 5:00AM. I had a 72MPH wind gust at that time but nothing higher than 55MPH after that. Got about 8 inches of rain in my gauge.
We lost our telephone (landline) exchange in Tallassee. Still out right now. Lots of sticks and branches down on my pecan trees and lost all the nuts, too. It really sucks to lose all your nuts :-)
Been out all morning picking up branches. Lot's of displaced fire ants and I've been pretty well bitten up on my feet and legs! Dang do I hate fire ants. More Amdro is on order!
