HURRICANE IVAN--FREEPER CHECK IN, RECOVERY, AID REQUEST THREAD
Self | 17 Sep 2004 | Commish

Posted on 09/17/2004 7:04:29 AM PDT by commish

Since we have had numerous FREEPERS in the area effected by Hurrican Ivan, I thought it would be good to start a thread for FREEPERS to check in.

Please place any damage reports, requests for assistance, etc here.

HEADS UP

WBAP radio in Dallas/Fort Worth is going to have a donation drive for Hurricane aid.

www.wbap.com

It is the same radio station that Amy Barnes went public on.

I feel like all the FReepers I've been talking with on the hurricane threads are family and I do care.

So true Gabz! The knowledge and camaraderie shared on the hurricane threads was amazing.

If anyone has photos of the damage, please post! Not AP or Reuters stuff but personal photos. We vacationed in Orange Beach in June and I'm curious to see the damage done, mainly along the shoreline.
Our thoughts and prayers go out for all those in the area. I can't imagine the devastation of having your home destroyed, or worse, a family member killed by the storm.
P.S. Anybody know of a place to contribute to relief efforts??

ANd with Jeanne heading this way and Karl looming in the wings, we're going to see a heck of a lot more, unfotunately.

Atlanta western 'burbs -- I'm back; my power went out yesterday afternoon, and didn't come back until late last night. I've got some water underneath my foyer, which I hope drains/dries without too much hassle...

We've got plenty of tree damage in and around here -- there's still a lot of power out in areas around here; the kids are home from school today...

I'm in the midwest but I have been following these threads like I was in the middle of it all. My heart goes out to all those impacted.

I'm anxious to hear from onyx and learn how her daughter and gc are doing. I read her post on the other thread that the Red Cross met their plane when they arrived in FL. Wondering about the little one who was suffering from Black Fly bites.

Thank you for your prayers, and I hope you had a wonderful time in Orange Beach on vacation....after we clean up and rebuild come back! I am trying to think of the good new in all of this...:)I think almost, if not everyone left Orange Beach ahead of the storm....even the "old timers" seemed to sense this was not one to ride out!

I'm on the east coast, but these storms have had little impact on me, but like you I follow them as if I'm in the middle as well.

I read her post on the other thread that the Red Cross met their plane when they arrived in FL.

Thanks for telling me, I missed that. I'm concerned about the little one as well, but Onyx's hubby is a doctor, so we know the level of medical attention will be excellent.

I live in Mobile, but am staying in Florence thru the weekend.

My home in west Mobile is fine...trees down in yard and across power lines, but nothing on any houses in the neighborhood. We came thru well under the circumstances.

I've talked to people who've been to Dauphin Island. West end is really bad, as one would expect. But the Ft. Gaines end seems to have come thru much better than we had hoped. The marina is wiped out but the bridge is apparently OK.

I'm really worried about the area north of Mobile, Atmore area. News crews have not gotten up there and the storm track looked pretty wicked where it passed over them. Anyone heard from that area?

Orange beach will be beautiful again by next summer...it has just been scoured clean ;-)

I remember the summer after Opal, that the Okaloosa Island beaches were prettier than ever -- the dunes were gone, but the beach was a nice flat pristine white.

Of course the areas where houses and condos had been was a nice flat pristine white too (oops).

We had a great time! My brother was stationed at Keesler in Biloxi in the late 80's and my wife and I visited the area between there and Pensacola several times. This was the first time we'd been back and WOW, what a change! Sure has grown up around there! We definitely plan on going back.

Great thread.

We haven't heard from blam since 9-14 10:12PM. He was evacuating inland. Hope we hear something soon--Godspeed.

Can't remember exactly where Blam was going but it was only about 30-40 miles inland, so they are sure to be without power still. May be a few days before we here from our friend.
