Since we have had numerous FREEPERS in the area effected by Hurrican Ivan, I thought it would be good to start a thread for FREEPERS to check in.
Please place any damage reports, requests for assistance, etc here.
Montgomery, AL - minimal damage, Power restored at 6PM last night.
Wife's father in Enterprise lost his roof, but it has been patched, tarred and sealed. Still without power
Brother in Ft Walton Beach - no damage to house (unbelievable), no power or water -- 7-14 days for restoration
Stepson father - Farihope, AL; house has a tree through the middle of it, no power, no water -- Second house, Gulf Shores, AL; completely destroyed. :-(
No injuries - that is the main thing.
Pingarooni
If you fell it is important enough to put in sidebar - please do so.
Various relatives in Bay County Panama City/Lynn Haven and vicinity. No damage, phones up, power on
Hello! I am an Orange Beach resident,(Ivan hit us at the eastern edge of the eye)... we have no word yet as to the condition of our home, located on the bay side of the island. It is difficult to wait ..... instant access to information has spoiled us ...
In Mobile...we dodged it this time....no power..phone and water service just fine :) No damage...my folks home on the bay got a tree through the bedroom :(
still waiting to hear from husband, a Navy Aircraft Mechanic school student who was evacuated from NAS Pensacola on Tues...last time I spoke to him was that morning before they left...
Hi commish. I'm glad that the damage was no worse than it was. I think that the whole Gulf Coast area dodged a bullet on this one. I know it's bad enough, but it had the potential to be devastating in loss of life and property. Camille was much worse. I know that Ala. has some very good cleanup crewd. Some of my friends in southern Ala.leave their regular jobs and join the cleanup when these things hit down there. Pray that everyone will be amply insured and soon get back to normal.
Prayers to Severa, I am sure he will contact you as soon as he is able. The waiting for information is the hardest part sometimes.
He's okay Severa. If not you would have heard by now. God give you peace.
Check-in ping!
Thanks for doing this.
I feel like all the FReepers I've been talking with on the hurricane threads are family and I do care.
Who is the freeper over there? gulfcoast6?
Sister , 6 year old niece, and 10 year old nephew, and brother in law...survied the storm in Daphne , Alabama, ...they have NO POWER....Seems their new home of nine months survived the storm...they lost some trees.
Here in Columbus, Georgia, the winds are gone, only had flickering off of electricity a few times, and three tornado warnings.
Anybody got any word on Birmingham.
My dad was there yesterday morning. He actually had to drive from there to Atlanta. He said it was pretty bad.
And that was before the meat of (I think at that point) was Trop Storm Ivan.
He said there were trucks and cars that had went off of the road all along I-20.
SO, I am wondering how much damage was done to Birmingham.
Anybody?
BTW, Destin, and areas east, like Sandestin, Grayton Beach and Seaside, are beautiful places. I wish them the best.
My daughter and son-in-law stationed at Eglin AFB evacuated down here to Orlando and are worried about their base house there. They don't know when they will be allowed to return.
My parents, grandmother and aunt who live in Bluewater Bay (Niceville - outside of Destin) stayed put and are safe and sound. Lots of trees down and roof damage to my parents' house and to many in their development. They actually had their power restored this afternoon so they are real happy about that. I'm going to buy them a chainsaw and send it back up with my daughter and son-in-law.
I have relatives up in Birmingham who lost their power and have been told it will be the 20th before it will be restored. A cousin in Auburn has been told she probably won't get her power back on until beginning of October.
I'm just thankful that everyone is safe. What a brutal month we've all had.
