My brother, who has been in the National Guard for more than 20 years, told me tonight on the phone that Bush's records would not have been retained by the TANG after he was discharged (early 1970's). The records would have been sent to the DOD records storage facility in Kansas City where they would have been transposed to microfiche and stored. This makes Burkett's story about the Bush file being laundered in the 1990's false.

I wish someone with hands-on knowledge about the records handling would opine on this subject.

1. Undeniable signs of composition on a computer
2. Army terminology instead of Air Force
3. Citing a retired officer as a source of "pressure"
4. Out of date address for Bush
5. Forged signatures
6. Traced to Abeline Kinkos
7. Confession

Does anyone else think this was just too easy? Any reporter with half a brain and the resources of a large newsroom could have traced this down in 48 hours. Why didn't they? And why was it so easy?

Clearly Burkett doesn't care whether he was caught or not.

Kudos to Bandit for this scoop!

In reading Burketts' article, I just have to say.... jeeezzz... does he think he's getting paid by the word, or what? Pssst... Bill... Here's a tip: GET TO THE POINT.

Not only is everything he writes false, he is a piss-poor writer. Which is good, I guess!

I don't think Burkett is the one. I think he was set up as the Fall Guy. For one thing he had a military career in the Guard so he'd know the correct terminology if he was the author of the forgeries. I think his mouthpiece, Van Os might be someone to look at more closely.

Okay, here is the lastest looniness about Memogate from the DUmmies. As an extra bonus for this edition of the DUmmie FUnnies, I will be adding my own comments in the [brackets].

CBS won't be intimidated. The rest of the whores are whores. And if it's a real investigation, the truth will out. And the truth ain't good for George.*

[You want the truth? I'LL GIVE YOU THE TRUTH!!! KARL ROVE forged those documents and then secretly flew to Abilene, Texas to fax them to CBS from a Kinkos in a grand scheme to discredit Dan Rather. Oh, and Halliburton paid for his plane ticket.]

It's hard even for the well-informed to separate the real news from the spin, the important news from the crap. I'm sorry, what was your question?

[Did your brain live thru birth?]

If Kerry loses, I predict a HUGE and VERY angry examination of our "Democratic" "leaders."

[And don't forget to give a full rectal exam to Dan Rather.]

Liberals need to get together and do something about this. Start from the ground up and revive those old journalistic standards.

[Yeah. Damn it to hell! I say it is an outrage when a responsible journalist like Dan Rather can't use forged documents without being criticized. We need to go back to the pre-Internet old journalistic standards where forgery is not condemned by those rightwing pajama wearing computer geeks.]

CBS should turn this around find out who duped them, and run them through the griller at this point what do they have to lose???????????????

[Answer: Their minds. Then they can join you at the Happy Land DUmmie FUnnie Farm.]

Let's show our support for Dan Rather's courageous journalism on the AWOL story by watching CBS Evening News!

[Yeah. Using forged documents in a TV report takes real guts.]

You know the freepers want to silence him...

[And miss out on a great comedy act?]

I am sending e mails of support every couple of days. I think they know why this is happening and I don't think they will stop because of it either. I think they made this decision a long time ago but still it helps to support them every chance we get.

["Dear Dan Rather---Thank you for having the courage to use forged documents. If we ever meet I would love to stick my head up your ass and SQUEAL in delight."]

if the DU community has been supporting Dan, isn't it logical that like minded communties do the same? we are not the only group hungry for the truth. and there ARE several such groups out there.

[Yes. Check out the Association of the Sanity-Challenged.]

never gave much thought to CBS news before, and was really pissed when they passed on the Raygun movie, but now they represent the absolute best chance for reinserting integrity and truth into the Amazing Right Wing Media Spin Machine. (In other words-dirty, lousy, cheneying liars)

[Dirty lousy, cheneying forgers.]

The puggies have it sewn up. Prolly * in a massive landslide. I'm thinking 60/38 or worse. Kerry probably won't even get NY. It's a disaster.

[Your disgusting display of rationality is enough to get you suspended from this DUmmie Board.]

as always with the bushes, when they can't attack the message they attack the messenger.

[And the forge faxer. Or is it fax forger?]

From Burkett...

"I know from your files that we have now reassembled, the fact that you did not fulfill your oath, taken when you were commissioned to "obey the orders of the officers appointed over you"."

I'd like to know who WE is? He uses I throughout the post, but for that sentence he uses WE. Could it be Barnes or someone from the Travis County Dem machine?

Chris Matthews just called Burkett delusional...this along with the IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) looks he displayed during Kitty Kelly...I think he's about to give it up for this election cycle

Clarification re the two Burketts:

Bill Burkett is Lt. Col. Bill Burkett a Vietnam Vet who served 28 years in senior command positions within the Army and the Army National Guard. He served on the National Guard Staff for Governor George W. Bush.

B. G. Burkett "Jug",(Vietnam vet with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade), is a military researcher. He was co-chairman of the Texas Vietnam Memorial with President George Bush as Honorary Chairman. He co-wrote "Stolen Valor" with Glenna Whitley. In "Stolen Honor" he has several entries on DAN RATHER. On pg 306 is the info on the 1988 "60 Minute" show "The Wall Within" in which Rather contended that between 26,000 and 100,000 suicides had occurred among Vietnam vets, "depending on what reputable source you believe."

I mean come on, this clearly was a job for Craig Livingston. When the Kerry campaign can't even make the right choice when it comes to files and forgery, its over.
