I am beginning to think Dan Rather is much more complicit in this than our wildest dreams

This could explain his unreasonable adherence to this story.

Can someone make a cartoon of Kerry & McAuliffe pulling the strings of Burkett, showing him in front of a computer, forging the memos or something like that? I would also say pulling the strings of Rather, except, I think Rather was knowingly part of this, he wasn't duped.

The DNC exploited Burkett's hatred for Bush and his mental instability.

I really think it was the DNC who actually forged the memo, then gave it to Burkett, or perhaps Burkett never had the originals either.

The records would have been sent to the DOD records storage facility in Kansas City where they would have been transposed to microfiche and stored.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the long term archive of DOD records was in Colorado. But this doesn't take away from the main point... removing old records from Texas in the 90s would be pointless without also hitting the archives. Somewhat harder to do, that.

I don't think Burkett is the one. I think he was set up as the Fall Guy. For one thing he had a military career in the Guard so he'd know the correct terminology if he was the author of the forgeries. I think his mouthpiece, Van Os might be someone to look at more closely.

Wasn't Burkett the guy who wrote "Stolen Valor"?

He meant to say "files that we have now invented from whole cloth".

Burkett doesn't have any originals or he would have supplied them.

In fact the forgeries clearly were not transcriptions either since they have so many errors and inconsistencies

Burkett was Army NG; Bush was Air NG.

Secretary last night said that language of "recreated" Air NG memo was Army.

I don't know about the TANG, but my records (at least the important stuff) were kept in microfiche form WHILE I was on active duty. Only the local command had paper copies. I know this because part of the process for making Chief Petty Officer was to request a copy and REVIEW them before the selection board did and correct any errors.

Let's say, just say, that the man is delusional.

Now let's also consider the possibility that he has some Bush file items that are not very interesting. In his mind the forged memos and the boring real reports that he has, may be merging into one.

This could indicate that Dan Rather is the innocent victim of a deranged lunatic. I don't buy it. Rather has got to be guilty, somehow.
