Its seems odd that country proclaiming a commitment to Freedom supports the closure of the only real free press in most of the middle east - Al Jazeera. Even Alister Campbell aplogist for the UK governement and a supporter of muting the TV station during the invasion of Iraq now agrees how important the station is to free speech.

So all of you neo-cons with your spin on Freedom for the Iraqi people how about letting them watch what ever TV station they wish to switch on. And let Al Jazeera report from Iraqi what has an emerging democracy ocuupied by freedom loving democracies got to fear from free sppech

My personal thoughts on it are that a name is intrinsic and descriptive of the thing it names and describes.
So in some ways, it IS my name.

At least it's more fitting than my birth name, and many have said as much to me.

Went online the first time in 1995, and that was the handle I chose.
It's been my online name for 10 years almost, and people who have met me after talking to me say that the name fits.

After picking this handle, I quickly wanted to shorten it to "4CJ" - whole lot shorter and easier to say/type. A few folks still want to shorten it to "4" like the "CJ" takes too long to write/say.

I always find people shortening my handle to "Darks".
Had someone get upset with that once, and I had to explain to someone that the person they were yelling at was a friend of mine and was shortening my screen name, that there was no insult or sleight going on, to please read the full comment before flaming anyone.

Let's see..
Sometime around early 2001, after the election.
Dropped into the Dimensional Doors thread, and we went over to another thread to weird people out.
(Someone had made a wisecrack about one of us.)
So we kinda were bad.
(Mods appeared afterwards.)
But, making it short, I was cracking a joke and got a response from my group, and someone took offense to the response.
They didn't recognise familiarity in the response.
Feels like a lifetime ago.

Let me ask you some questions here.

1. Do you live in the US and are you familiar with the laws and regulations that are also part of our society, along with the rights that the constitution gives us.?
If not you know no from where you speak.

We do believe in free speech, but even free speech has its limitations.
Do you allow someone to shout fire in a crowded theater and create a panic? No of course not that could get people killed in the stampeded that follows.

Al Jazerra is constantly screaming fire in the Arab media, and yes it does cause panic in the streets of Iraq, and if the Iraqi government asks us to squelch the person screaming fire to help stabilize the country I feel that it is warranted.

I think we can agree my right to free speech or free action only extend as far as to the point where it interferes with someone else rights or freedoms, and by that if you violate my right by extending yours to endanger or disrupt. I have the obligation to act in return. That is what is occurring here. It goes beyond the simple realm of a superpower trying to oppress. That is so 1980's.

Can you refute this.
