One scenario : They come on and say the docs are fake, but NOT due to any of the reasons everybody else has come up with, but due to something that only THEY have come up with. That way they can promote themselves as trustworthy and diligent and still claim the others are hacks.

I'm guessing the delay is due to internal dissension at CBS over the content of the statement. There must be some significant differences of opinion over exactly what the statement should say. They probably floated an internal draft earlier today, and it likely made some people very unhappy. I 'spose thay are rather (no pun intended) frantically trying to craft a compromise statement with which everyone can live.

That's not likely to be easy, which explains the delay.
