According to Laurie Dhue at the bottom of the hour all flights are grounded at LAX due to a "radio problem"...

"Okay, apart from doing more jokes about Dhue, I'd like to know if anybody's got any idea how a massive communication failure encompasses multiple airports." Interesting thought and if it is a Communication failure what procedure allows you to land planes without Communications?
I know they have to have some way to do it but how would they?

They are talking four hour shut down of airports.
Power failure affecting commo, according to media reports.

...flights are circling in holding patterns as far east as Indiana if there were a credible threat of a nuke in the southwestern US, say at a random site like LA or Las Vegas, what would you tell the public about diverting all flights away from there while you started to put NEST and your other resources into place?
What if you have a report of something nasty on a plane in the air and you don't want to let any of the suspect planes into a populated area? What is a credible story to buy time?
Admin Moderator, if this is a case of LLSS, please pull my post.

They've got radio problems that Dhue not seem easily solved by the sly FOX at the transmitter site whose bottom is feeling LAX.
Squeeze the microphone more firmly and talk really loud.

We got nearly five thousand aircraft safely on the ground on 9/11. Have faith, your brother will land safely.
Prayers up for all in the air right now.

ATC (IIRC, Altitude Control Center) in Palmdale has a radio failure, apprently first caused by a power problem (likely a commuter car hitting a power pole, if things are like normal up in that area.) The radios came up for a moment a few minutes ago, then failed again. At this time, most southwest airports are expecting four hours of delay due to this problem.

Prayers also for all those in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia who are trying to get out of the way of a hurricane by flying out on commerical flights; likely those flights will also be delayed due to the huge number of flights being redirected right now.

Ground stop ordered by FAA, most flights not flying, some aircraft in the air have no communications, according to reports..
This is rather hard to believe.

Oh my gosh, I didn't even think of that. I'm ashamed.
Prayers for a speedy fix to this communication problem and prayers for all in the path of this hurricane.

Hey, if you were a pilot and got a look at Laurie Dhue's bottom, wouldn't you stay grounded?
There's a "Mile High Club" joke in there somewhere...

Semper911,
Now truly ... isn't Laurie the Perfect Woman to spend a week with in Bermuda, walking down the beach, enjoying great conversation and better adult-beverages ...
And then returning back to the States with her on your arm, knowing that your Mother would smile from ear-to-ear when you two announced to the family (over Sunday evening dinner) that you were getting married.
It something like that would only happen to me (sigh) ... and if you think I'm making that up ... I'm NOT, as well as quite eligible and single ....

i agree, i was in london over the weekend and returned last night (but to JFK). i could swear we were being escorted by some kind of military plane which then turned around.
it seems that my tinfoil cap is always ready for use.

Ground stop is not affecting civil aviation flights out of local airports. At least, that's what it appears to be, since we're getting small aircraft flying out of Brackett Airport in Pomona going over us.

I heard that too.
SD news just said they expect the delays to last through the night. Not sure where they got that information from. But also said that the small commuter type planes are still flying.

Try to treat her like your sister. For most of you guys, that's closer than you could ever hope to get to her anyway.lol
