Tom Foley in 1994, Tom Daschle in 2004! :)
Knocking off congressional leaders like this is so rare. It could happen this year though. Since Repubs are struggling in other states, unfortunately, (even FL!) a gain in SD would be huge, and would go a long way towards maintaining or expanding the GOP majority.

I believe, however, that Mell Martinez will win handily (I could be wrong, but I believe it). And, if the trend continues in Bush's favor (keep it the month of August for Kerry), then the 'rats are in trouble across the board.
I only wish we could get a super majority in the Senate to invoke cloture. That may not happen, but let's pray for it :o)

Daschle's blind hatred has backfired on him on occasion, especially when he has tried to make Republicans look like simpletons.
June 8, 2001:
Tom Daschle, newly reseated Senate Majority Leader, said to the press
"This isn't rocket science here"
Unfortunately Daschle was talking
about the Missile Defense program

The right question. It is Thune's for the taking, if and only if they don't let them stuff the ballot boxes this time.

Breaux is retiring. His is one of the seats the GOP hopes to snag this election. Just curious, Why is Breaux retiring?
Is he just fed up with his party like Zell or is there some other reason(s)?

Just curious, Why is Breaux retiring? I believe the public reason is that he wants to make some real money in the private sector (lobbying). My personal opinion is that this centrist Dem is tired of seeing his beloved party lurch everleftward, smearing our military and our country.
