Upon return to our flimsy hotel room at the Key West Inn in Childersburg, we found evacuation instructions in case of a tornado. The hotel was cheaply built. Not a good choice for weathering a hurricane. A bunch of rowdy guys in their 20's with piercings and endless quantities of beer had set up some very loud heavy metal music on the second floor walkway. They were stomping in time to the music. There is a river about 1/4 mile away.
It was too late to get a flight out from Birmingham on Wednesday night. Thursday flights were canceled. My reservation was set for Friday at 12:25 PM...after Ivan was due to pass through the area. The prospects of getting a flight out or weathering the storm in place were both unsatisfactory. As such, I rented a car in Birmingham and started the drive home. I'll meet my wife in Salt Lake City after dropping off the rental car. Driving 1,800 miles isn't lots of fun, but it beats volunteering to be a target of hurrican Ivan. I'm sitting in a Holiday Inn off Interstate 80 in Nebraska. I still have 800 miles to get to Salt Lake City. That should be complete tomorrow.
Nothing like a real time business adventure. I'll try to catch up on the thread over the weekend.
Oh my. That guy in that pic (Skip Estes) was rather dashing looking as a Christian, but look what he turned into after converting to Islam?! Ug. Ugly Sheik Estes now. I know he aged about 12 years or so naturally, but I really think is was/is the muslim way of life that turned him ugly.
