Did you hear the bit about how he'll show pieces of evidence to the contrary of his story but "so far there aren't any."

Ask Killian's Son or his Widow. They told CBS the memos were wrong, but their words were dismissed.

Times Roman has been available since 1931, but only in linotype printshops...until released with Apple MacIntosh in 1984 and Windows 3.1 in 1991.

Right. Nobody said that the Times Roman font didn't exist then, only that it wasn't commonly used on typewriters of the time. And the original Bush document with the raised th was typed in Courier, not Times Roman.

Can't be, cause Dan Rather stated clearly on tonight's broadcast that no one from that time and place has disputed the documents.

If you're sure of those two release dates for Times Roman, get your statement and sources in the blogosphere under the title, "Proof that Rather Lied Tonight."

Ha, Ha, Ha! As a former clerk-typest in the US Army, I can attest to the fact that we did not have linotype machines to prepare the daily correspondance, orders, or notices. We plunked away on the mass produced electric or manual typewriters of the day. Elite or Pica, that was the rule, and it just depended on the issued typewriter. Look for white-out, overtypes, miss-spellings, etc., to confirm origin. Only Morning Reports were "perfect".

As I recall, Times Roman was not released with the original Macintosh in 1984.

The Mac did have a font called Times, which was approximately like Times Roman, but I don't think even this was available until the Apple LaserWriter was released in 1985.

On the original Mac, Apple's New York font was the closest thing to Times Roman. (No one would ever confuse New York with Times Roman or Times, though.) This was back before PostScript fonts and TrueType fonts; all fonts on the Mac were bitmapped back then.

According to the Apple's press release on the LaserWriter, "The LaserWriter is the first personal-computer printer to be awarded license to use the original Helvetica and Times typefaces" (see http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=587%40uw-beaver, late January, 1985).

I don't know whether Windows 3.1 included Times Roman or not. Maybe someone with an old machine sitting around could check.
