WASHINGTON AP) - The Bush administration differed Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that only a political settlement could end the crisis between Russia and the breakaway region of Chechnya.

The administration also left open the possibility of U.S. meetings with Chechens who are not linked to terrorists.

Secretary of State Colin Powell and Deputy Secretary Richard Armitage signed a book of condolences at the Russian Embassy over the deaths of at least 330 people, most of them children, during a hostage-taking last week at a school in the southern city of Beslan.

"Bush is too much of a gentleman and politician to say we are in a war against ISLAMIC MUSLIM EXTREMISTS."

He's made that distinction several times.

BTW...good night.

I don't support Chechen terrorist as you claim that I do, but I sure as hell don't support Russian terrorism either.

Oh --- as though Mexico was giving them a voice? You act like the USA is occupying Texas and California -- when did have you ever heard of a single uprising by the people in Texas because they wanted to reunite with Mexico? Even today, most Mexicans want out of Mexico -- they should state by state declare themselves independent from Mexico and then try to join the USA --- but they might have to fight the army of Mexico. I guess it's easier packing up your bags and fleeing.

Why is the United States occupying New Mexico?

(Chechnya has been part of Russia longer than NM a part of the USA.)

Should we depart from NM if "separatists" start blowing up kids?

And the difference between you and Chechen terrorists is...?

I don't worship gore and blood.

You wrote:

Psst...didn't you get the *secret memo*?
It's not Kuchinich, its Dan Rather by write-in. </sarcasm>

but you are going to compare the US presence in Iraq to the forty year Russian occupation of Poland?

No -- it really isn't the same at all --- but the Polish people became free of Russian occupation and they did it without bringing in Arabs to murder the children of Russia --- and Poland is relatively stable and capable of self-rule. I'm not sure how long we have to stay in Iraq and if we can ever leave it knowing it would remain stable --- I'm not very optimistic about Iraq --- I think the various Muslim groups will drive out or kill any non-Muslims and then turn on each other. Our American soldiers are over their dying and getting maimed --- but meanwhile thousands of Iraqis are living here in the USA --- unwilling to fight for freedom in Iraq.

FITZ...no, Medxico was not giving Texas a voice, but the Texicans fought a war to separate themselves from Mexico.

The US did not invade Texas and take it from Mexico.

Actually YOU act as if the US is occupying Texas, California, New Mexico, Iraq, and Haiti.

Do me a favor, don't post to me any more.

Then the Russians will have to kill the rest of them.
People as low as they are deserve no better than annihilation.
Independence would not end the war anyway, only make them a base to continue their encroachments of Georgia and Dagestan.

The difference is in the goal. We stop calling for blood as soon as they stop fighting. They will stop killing only when there is a worldwide Islamic slave camp. The rest of us stopped calling for Russian blood when they stopped with the international communism BS.

So America uses baby killers for diplomacy dealings? What country do you imagine we belong to then?

At no point anywhere in the article or in my posts was it suggested we deal with those devils. Boucher statement at face value says there will be a political solution to this terrorist problem doesn't change the fact that in the end there will be a political solution, even if that includes eliminating the terrorist one by one.

Was not our transfer of sovereign power to the new Iraq government a political solution ?

Old Chamberlain is alive and well, working in the State Dept, in some dim lit closet office somewhere in the basement.

A senior diplomat here said the U.S.-Chechen contacts were at the working or desk-officer level, and that the last State Department visit by a Chechen separatist was in 2001

Doesn't surprise me in the least that the AP would write an article about events from 2001 and treat it as current events.
