Has Drudge Jumped the Shark?
Posted on 09/03/2004 9:01:43 AM PDT by Shortwave
It's Friday and I'm feeling great! I want to get Freeper's opinion on something that I've noticed as of late. Has the Drudge Report jumped the shark? The content of his site has been very lame and late in posting. With the political "spit balls" firing back and forth, it seems that his coverage has not been good. It appears to me as a trend. Just my opinion but I would like to hear yours.

Shortwave, I've been thinking the same thing. So the first thing I come to is FR for my daily "fix" for political and general info.*~*

Ah, that makes more sense! The famous Happy Days episode where the cast went to California. Fonzie DID jump the shark, and the basis for Joanie Loves Chachi spin off was established.A while back on "That 70s Show", Fes made a reference to the episode where Fonzie, on water skis, jumps over the shark. Hyde remarks that he thought it was pretty lame, and never watched the show again after that episode.

I don't think that assessment is fair.
Drudge has been leading the way with the Swift Boat Vets story. If it wasn't for Drudge Report the OLD MEDIA would have been successful in burying it.
Also, I loved the little things he displays on his site. The "man of the people" picture of Kerry and Tereza on the boat yesterday was hilarious. It wasn't earth shattering but it drove home a point.

Set your Internet Options security levels higher. Everything should be at High, Disabled, or Prompt - except for 'Submit Non-Encrypted Form Data' - that should be Enabled.

Exactly, Drudge is a loser, obsessed with the hollywood media, late night talk show hosts, his site is worthless for news.

In it's infancy, FR got lots of breaking news stories from Drudge.
As FR grew, Drudge became more and more irrelevant.
Now most news stories appear here long before anywhere else. The tables have turned.
Drudge, Rush, Hannity etc all peruse this site to play catchup. Ketchup?
Oh and yea, but did you see Laura???

Although some of what is posted on Free Republic comes from Drudge, FR has scooped him many times on national stories. Having tens of thousands of FReepers as reporters beats the newswires.I used to always go to Drudge first. In fact, I discovered Free Republic via Drudge. However, for months now I have been coming straight to Free Republic to find out what is going on in the world. Freepers RULE!

Apparently Fonzie, on Happy Days, water skiied over some sharks. This story line was apparently used out of desperation as the series began to lose viewers. In 1983, after a decade of Nielsen invincibility on Tuesday nights, ABC's one-two punch of Happy Days (starring former Andy Griffith child star and future Oscar-winning director Ron Howard) and Laverne & Shirley (debuted 1976) was surprisingly whipped in the ratings by NBC's hour-long action series The A-Team (starring George Peppard and former bouncer Mr. T).
To bring viewers back, the producers of Happy Days apparently decided to recycle one of their highest-rated episodes ever -- the one in which Fonzie attempted to over jump thirteen garbage cans with his motorcycle in Arnold's parking lot. This time, he was water-skiing over an oncoming shark. The stunt for ratings failed, and
The term "jumped the shark" has entered the American lexicon thanks to the internet. What's ironic is that Keith Olbermann would comment on "jumping the shark." After thinking himself too good for ESPN and leaving, Olbermann didn't even make it over the shark.
In fact, the shark is still chewing on Olbermann's lower torso. The shark will have a harder time trying to swallow his swelled head.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I'd wish that Matt was above all of the crude attempts to grab hold of your computer. Just put a banner ad on top of the index page and knock off the manipulation. It's a regular HELLSTORM! of semi-malicious ads that are BREAKING HARD!
