Probably chronically depressed, for one thing.
I know it's depressing to listen to him!
I don't know why the Dems keep nominating such people - Clinton, Gore, and now K. - who carry out their personal psycho-dramas on the national stage.
Why must we all be drawn in to this dysfunction??
I'm more and more convinced that Libs have problems with personal boundary issues.
TO ALL OF YOU HIGH AND MIGHTY
WHO SAID HERE ARNIE WAS A RINO !
You were and are MORONS!
Alan Colmes, when speaking with one of our local hosts broadcasting from the RNC, just characterized the convention-related arrests in NYC as "a handful".
As of last night, I read that the number was near 1000.
I think I just heard Colmes' head spin off and hit the floor.
Fox has an item saying Zarqawi was killed in the Najaf safe-house bombing. There is a thread.
Filmmaker Michael Moore, the man behind the documentary 'Fahrenheit 9/11,' a scathing critique of the George W. Bush administration and the war in Iraq, is mobbed by members of the press at the media filing center, prior to the third night of the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York September 1, 2004.
It is often said (at least I often say it) that being a leftist is dangerous to one's mental health. I'm dead serious about this, because what one thinks actually affects brain physiology, neuropathways, and hence brain function. (For example, thinking depressing thoughts makes one depressed.) Leftist thought isn't so much an ideology as it is a worldview...it's a way that people understand the world, human nature, and the way the universe works.
A major characteristic of the leftist worldview is that it is essentially humanistic (secular), and has dismissed God from the equation. But if there is a God, and this God is the one revealed in the Bible (the basis of western values), then way a secular leftist views the world and human nature is tied to a set of assumptions that have no connection to the way human nature, the world, and the universe actually work -- their assumptions, or their "worldview" is in error. The more one sinks into their delusional, irrational worldview, unconnected to the way things really are, the more one is at risk for mental illness. This is where the left is today -- teetering on the edge of insanity. Consequently, I no longer look upon the Democrat Party as the "liberal" party in America, but as the "dysfunctional" party.
I think this is what is going on with the left in this country. They keep nominating and voting for psychologically damaged people because they are psychologically damaged themselves. And the fact that Kerry (up to now) has been either tied with Bush in the polls, or slightly ahead, is truly scary. But I think reason and reality will prevail in November -- perhaps bearly, but they will prevail.
Nevertheless, we live in dangerous times.
You know what was great about this day? I was able to tell my golf buddies that tonight Zell Miller would be on. Most of them did not know who Zell Miller was, as they do not follow politics the way we do. When I told them that Zell Miller was a Democrat senator from Georgia, their eyes got as big as saucers.
Oh this is a great convention, and it's got people watching who normally do not pay attention!

Mark Shields is a real tool. He makes a hacky statement every time they go to commercial.
As for the man's general body language, he's all weird, angular, awkward arm and hand movements. For me, they evoke a couple of adjectives: pretentious and self-conscious. What he telegraphs to me is that he doesn't quite know how to behave in this national candidate role, so Kerry's doing what he imagines a presidential candidate should do rather than what comes naturally to him.
The clearest example of this, to me, is the day he took that boat ride and decided to act out the Leonardo di Caprio "I'm king of the world" scene from Titanic.
I have the same reaction to the jock-of-the-day photo ops. Kerry seems to be working overtime trying to convince everyone that he is a vigorous, fit, youthful 60-something man. As a result, even when he's at an airport, he's got to be photographed playing catch. I could buy the image he's selling if it were just a few such photo ops centered on one or two, or even three sports. But the jock-of-the-day stuff just comes off as pretentious and self-conscious as someone who believes the image he holds of himself is not adequate for a presidential candidate.
The other thing both the jock-of-the-day photos and, indeed, Kerry's entire "I'm a war hero" campaign telegraph strongly to me is this: Kerry is not just competing with GWB as a political opponent, but as a man. To me, Kerry seems to be trying to be more GWB than GWB. It's as though he's trying to say to the public, "You may like George Bush, but I'm an even better George Bush." Strange. Very strange.
Have an Orthodox Christian bishop giving the invocation.
One thing bothers me tho...about both our statements...
Dysfunction and mental illness implies sickness, and thus unaccountability for the state these characters find themselves in.
No responsiblity...??? Absolutely not!
Speaking of C-span, can someone please post a link. I'd really like to see Zell's speech.
What possible point could they be trying to make? Who do they think they can influence like that?
Hm, they left out the part where the smart and fast-thinking young attendees that were there for the rally shouted down the protesters with calls of FOUR MORE YEARS. They did a very good job of covering up the ugly chanting of the protesters. I never did hear what the protesters were trying to yell because the Republican kids moved into action quickly.
Oh well, glad I saw it or I'd not know.
bump to mark
Excellent report.
On last night's thread, the last thing I reported was all the good news Dubya got yesterday: Thune leading, Martinez winning, great convention, etc.
But there's more! Fox just reported the defeat in yesterday's Dem primary of THERESA LA PORE...she of "butterfly ballot" fame. LOL! (Actually, I always felt kind of sorry for her...attacked by her own party like that.)
"To me, Kerry seems to be trying to be more GWB than GWB>"
I think that is pretty perceptive.I hadn't thought of that, but I think you're right. Flip that (sorry) and try to imagine GW trying to emulate another person.
