Which some people want to credit for every plane crash since Sept. 11th. Speaking of, just last week I was commenting to my wife on how few American airline crashes there have been since 9/11. More attention to safety, perhaps?

Same airport. Night shift. One bomber, with access to luggage of both planes. That's what it'll be."Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time is enemy action" - Auric Goldfinger

I think she meant a signal for other operations to be launched as well.

Wouldn't fuel problems give 'em time to Mayday?
They wouldn't just fall out of the sky with bad fuel.
Only some form of a catastrophic breakup leaving no time for radio calls.

Don't be a smart ass. Go read accident reports and you'll see that in every crash where there are eye witnesses, a good number will say there was an explosion.
God, trying to discuss aviation with people who can't tell a 747 from an A340 is just about impossible.
Oh and for the record, I do NOT believe that TWA was shot down, either by the USN or by terrorists.

from AP:
ITAR-Tass now reporting that contact has been lost with a second plane. An earlier story said that second plane had crashed.

the last time two planes crashed like that was 9/11. there were bombs in the planes...or chechens stormed the cockpits and took them down

Weather could be another possibility. There are all sort of things that could be possibilities. However, the odds of two airliners taking off from the same airport, then having accidents leading to crashes within a short time of each other several hundred miles apart are astronomical.

If it's the Chechens, this should be very instructional to the handwringers of the world. And, I am so happy that I'm not a Muslim living anywhere in the range of a Russian weapon.

Even in many forms of structural failure, avionics still get power, at least for a while, so controllers see a huge course, speed and altitude change.
