XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE AUG 24, 2004 11:09:31 ET XXXXX

KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES

**Exclsuive**

Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans.

Brant was skipper of the #96 and # 36 boat and spent time with Kerry in Anm Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to be at night when Kerry was sleepwalking.

Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was watching the Olympics on TV.

The call lasted 10 minutes, sources tell DRUDGE.

KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?"

BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.

[Brant had two men killed in battle.]

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant -- man to man -- face to face.

Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back.

So he is now saying his friends were not criminals but the rest of us were!

Yesterday on Hannity, there was some democrat skank calling Bush "A disgrace to this country for not serving in Nam".
That means anyone else serving the country in other places are "A disgrace to this country."
The Republican's rebuttal was "I can't believe I heard that. "

I wonder if he will pull a Clinton and apologize with a tear in his eye for the ignorance of youth and bad judgements

Only Clinton can pull a Clinton. The title of his book should have been "Don't Try This At Home".

Is this a transcript of an actual recording?

That's comforting. The Swifties were okay but all the rest of the vets were the baby killers and war criminals.

"I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

This doesn't work.

This not only creates a divide between the Swifties and the "rest", which is what he wants, but it also concedes a divide between the Swifites and himself, WHICH IS ONE OF THE CENTRAL THESES OF THE BOOK.

He said he personally participated in violations of the Geneva Convention -- the Swifites said "not us", and now he is saying "that's right, YOU DIDN'T."

Major blunder.

Yea .. But he then still blames the other 2.2 Million Vietnam Vets of war crimes

I know, but I'm just giving what I believe is the most plausible clintonian scenario.

"... Interesting about the sleepwalking..."Unfit"?"

Sleepwalkers generally get a medical discharge from the military.

This could be evidence of Kerry's first pathetic attempts at getting sent back home.

Or a saying that was popular in the Clinton years, "The louder he spoke of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons."

Looks like Kerry will not be getting the FACE TO FACE PHOTO-OP showing him with an opponent and spinning it as only Kerry could!

Guess he thought just seeing him would thrill this Vet.

T'was a NO GO, Kerry. You have been exposed, dear. You are one emporer (wanna be) that TRULY has no clothes.

This tells me Kerry's internal polls show he's bleeding out on credibility.

I expect a Dean Scream any day now.....(grin)

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

And yet we know at the Swift Boat reunion in Norfolk in 2003 (?), Kerry showed up with a team of photographers, made sure he got on the dock next to the boat to make sure he was in the picture with the boat; we also know that, when asked, not ONE Swiftie agreed to be in the photograph with him.

We also know that, once he had his "promo pictures" (reenactment), he left; he didn't bother to stay for the memorial service for the men who died on the boats.

How can he exclude only his buddies from the vicious charges he levelled

He was standing at every airport and bus depot in the country as these veterans got off and directed the coward protesters "NO DON'T SPIT ON HIM HE SERVED WITH ME".

Men of honor and integrity aren't going to fall for that.

Sounds like Kerry's chickens have come home to roost. Now he's trying to coax them to roost in his tree.

"...and the one Kerry made to Admiral Hoffman."

You hardly hear about this call to Hoffman in the news. Kerry clearly attempted to bribe Hoffman into backing off when he told Hoffman he'd make sure the negative things he said about Hoffman and others in Brinkley's book would be changed in a rewrite.
