Well, I'll be reinstalling it then. It worked well for me when there were updates available. Thanks for the heads-up.

"If you're referring to Spybot Search and Destroy, I don't believe its being supported any more. I haven't seen any updates for it in months.I switched over to Ad-Aware for my spyware nuking pleasure." I'm running AdAware v1.3 - is "SpyBot S&D" still required or recommended?

Several on this thread have found new updates for Spybot. If there are updates available, I highly recommend it - it worked very well for me when I had it installed.

Thanks AGS - if I'm using the latest version of AdAware v1.3, is SpyBot S&D redundant?

Again, some on this thread are reporting that Spybot catches some adware that AdAware doesn't. I haven't had AdAware long enough to notice any significant "misses" on its part. I intend to reinstall Spybot as soon as I can.
I see no reason not to have both installed.

Spybot is still very alive, but download the latest program, I think it is 1.3.
Also, Adaware is also new so it should be downloaded and installed. In both cases it is best to uninstall the old programs before installing the new. Not really necessary, but it is cleaner and causes less problems.
A great resource for freeware is the freeware newsgroup. There are alternate sources for just about every program out there,

If you just got a fast web connection, you might download the free program iTunes from Apple. A terrific music shopping site. You can browse 30 second snips of songs as much as you like; a great way to find about old half-remembered classics. Then you can buy for 99 cents per song.

TraySaver ... when Explorer.exe crashes and "hides" the System Tray icons making it impossible to get a program back up and running. It also has the fringe benefit of putting a "Minimize to Tray" command to the default right-click taskbar menus--so you can put your email program, for example, in the system tray instead of having it clutter up your taskbar.

If you're referring to Spybot Search and Destroy, I don't believe its being supported any more.
It certainly is. In fact, SSD will find Firefox/Moxilla cookies where Ad-aware won't. SSD has to be run in Advanced mode (beta download) which works fine. For more info, check the Firefox forum, search for 'cookie'.

"If you're referring to Spybot Search and Destroy, I don't believe its being supported any more. I haven't seen any updates for it in months."Au contraire. Been rebuilding a few systems here over the past week and, once again, download Spybot S&D onto all of them, and there ARE updates. It's still VERY much alive and well, and the best product of its kind out there, period.

Avant Browser (www.avantbrowser.com).
It's a freeware upgrade to IE. Very stable, popup blocker, very customizable, and does movable tabbed windows.

Anyone out there use TeX, the computer typesetting language? (It allows the user to produce professional-quality mathematical documents; many scientific journals ask authors to use it.) There's a terrific freeware version on the web called MikTeX.
