ARE BOOKSELLERS SUPPRESSING 'UNFIT FOR COMMAND' IN YOUR AREA?
Bookstore Employees LIE About UNFIT FOR COMMAND in Nashville; various FR posts ^ | August 19, 2004 | GretchenM

Are you having difficulty finding Unfit for Command locally, for reasons other than the publisher didn't print enough copies?

The thread linked above has numerous examples of book store employees standing in the consumer's way when they try to find this book.

Perhaps if FReepers list their experiences in one place we can see where the bottlenecks are (they seem to be scattered) and take action as appropriate to help the liberals now suppressing sales to see the error of their ways.

mystery1 wrote on the above-linked thread:

I live in San Diego and just called 2 Borders stores. I was told they don't have it in stock. When I asked why they wouldn't have a book in stock that was Number 1 on Amazon... I was told by one, that the book had errors in it and had to be sent back for corrections, and the second store told me that the book was pulled due to slander and they would get a revised book in soon.

I asked to speak to the manager in both cases and were told in both cases that they had just reprimanded the employee who told me that story.

After further conversation I was told by one of the managers that they had been getting repeat calls from someone who was saying the book was slanderous and not to sell it.

I have contacted their corporate offices and relayed my experience with their outlets, in a voice mail and asked for a return call.

I also contacted a Barnes and Noble store and was told they didn't have any and they blamed the publisher. I also spoke to the manager of that store and was told they only ordered 5 copies because they didn't expect that there would be that big demand for it.

Once I informed him that it was number on Amazon 2 weeks ago, and surely all stores would have known it was popular way in advance... he had no reply, except to refer me to the website for B&N where I could find contact info for their corporate offices.

"No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them"

Bookstores around here would be specializing in cookbooks and diet books if all the books spewing liberal lies were withdrawn.

It's still not in stock at Borders Waikele (Oahu). The clerk was pleasant when I asked about it, though but I didn't push further. She just looked it up in the computer and said it hadn't shipped yet. The PX at Schofield didn't have it yet either, but on the plus side they've already discounted Bill Clinton's book.

My dad owns a bookstore. It mainly deals in rare books, but there are new books there, including best sellers, but all this anti-Bush stuff is in with them. The employees, except for me, are liberals. The guy who does the computer stuff listens to Air America over the Internet. So earlier this week, I played a Quinn in the Morning archive from another computer. My sister came in and got pissed off by it, but made the other guy shut his radio program off so I would turn off mine. Two weeks before I had made a comment to my dad and another employee that I was tempted to turn on Rush if he was going to play that junk, and the radio is a whole lot louder than computer speakers. Now I just need to get "Democracy Now" and other disgusting NPR programs turned off. It's unbelievable the lies and hypocracy they spout on there. They really are worse than Michael Moore.

I haven't seen "Unfit for Command" yet on the table. But we don't look at the best sellers on Amazon in ordering books. Now that it's coming out on the New York Times list, it should get ordered, especially if they only look at the title and think it refers to Bush. But since the publisher is out of stock (I believe that), it probably will be a few weeks.

Don't suppose that's because it was 500% overpriced to begin with do ya?

This is a new one on me but I keep reading about it - stashing the conservative books out of sight so that the great unwashed won't accidentally stumble on the truth and be converted.

How do I get this thread posted to the "General / Chat / Literature / Books" sidebar?

That too. I have to admit being rather perplexed at seeing a whole table full of them there (My Lies) -amazingly none defaced - when it first came out. Someone who had a civilian look about him ahead of me in line purchased a copy. Once he was out of earshot I commented to the clerk that I was surprised anybody bought one. . . she admitted it wasn't selling well at all.

Tuesday, I went to Barnes & N, Bakersfield, CA, and was told that Unfit had been withdrawn by the publisher because of a problem with the binding! At the time, I thought this might be so, as I also got the "we certainly want to stock it, as we've gotten so many requests, etc." Now, since no one else has reported this inventive excuse, it appears Barnes & N is part of the "Empire Strikes Back."

Yeah, but think of it this way. Shortages create even higher demands. If it appears to be hard to get people who might not want it will try and get it. Remember Cabbage Patch dolls? In the end, it may increase demand dramatically and then people will start actually getting their hands on it in October. I think the Dems might prefer the book run its course sooner than that.

Someone else mentioned the similarity to Cabbage Patch dolls tonight.

I think, from the mouth-foaming activities of the dems, they are in absolute paranoic mode, trying anything (anything; can't wait to see their next move) to keep this story suppressed, unavailable, the Swift Boat vets smeared up, whatever.

I ordered mine from Amazon on the 16th and tonight my "track your stuff" says it will ship between the 23 and 26. We'll see.

Clinton books? P-u-l-l-e-e-z-z-e. At B&N it took every ounce of self-control to keep from from kicking down displays of his loathsome book. They were everywhere. Guess they can't get rid of them.

Same reply at Borders Parkway Point Atlanta Georgia. Commented that publisher underestimated demand for "Unfit" and that he too wants to read it. All staff had punk appearance.

I've debated about whether I want to continue to support booksellers like B&N since they are so evidently hostile to Conservatives.

But when Conservative books are not getting "face time" where America shops for books, it is a situation similar to the days before talk radio, the internet and Fox News.

I wish someone would come along like Crown Books did, and give these guys a run for their money, only without the Leftist slant.

the Barnes & Noble on 6th Avenue and 8th Street (Greenwich Village) in New York City

Someone posted on FR a few days ago that they wore a "Bush" hat to a party in the Hamptons and got a lot of thimbs up.

Can you imagine that?

Methinks that there will be a lot of New Yorkers in line with Ed Koch, voting for our President.

I'm just now sllowing myself to think that we could have another "Dewey Wins" situation on our hands, that there will be a surprising number of dyed-in-the-wool Democrats who will think a second time when they're in the voting booth, and go for Bush.

Can the shareholders of Amazon.com, Borders, and Barnes & Noble do anything to remedy the loss of profits caused by leftist employees suppressing the distribution of 'Unfit for Command'?
