ARE BOOKSELLERS SUPPRESSING 'UNFIT FOR COMMAND' IN YOUR AREA?
Bookstore Employees LIE About UNFIT FOR COMMAND in Nashville; various FR posts ^ | August 19, 2004 | GretchenM

Are you having difficulty finding Unfit for Command locally, for reasons other than the publisher didn't print enough copies?

The thread linked above has numerous examples of book store employees standing in the consumer's way when they try to find this book.

Perhaps if FReepers list their experiences in one place we can see where the bottlenecks are (they seem to be scattered) and take action as appropriate to help the liberals now suppressing sales to see the error of their ways.

mystery1 wrote on the above-linked thread:

I live in San Diego and just called 2 Borders stores. I was told they don't have it in stock. When I asked why they wouldn't have a book in stock that was Number 1 on Amazon... I was told by one, that the book had errors in it and had to be sent back for corrections, and the second store told me that the book was pulled due to slander and they would get a revised book in soon.

I asked to speak to the manager in both cases and were told in both cases that they had just reprimanded the employee who told me that story.

After further conversation I was told by one of the managers that they had been getting repeat calls from someone who was saying the book was slanderous and not to sell it.

I have contacted their corporate offices and relayed my experience with their outlets, in a voice mail and asked for a return call.

I also contacted a Barnes and Noble store and was told they didn't have any and they blamed the publisher. I also spoke to the manager of that store and was told they only ordered 5 copies because they didn't expect that there would be that big demand for it.

Once I informed him that it was number on Amazon 2 weeks ago, and surely all stores would have known it was popular way in advance... he had no reply, except to refer me to the website for B&N where I could find contact info for their corporate offices.

In case there's a (c) issue with Salon, this is rephrased.

Unfit for bookstores
John Kerry's campaign called on a publisher to remove book after Washington Post attacked the truthfulness of a Swift boat veteran.
By Eric Boehlert Aug. 19, 2004

Kerry's campaign told Salon that Regnery (Unfit for Command publisher) is selling a hoax and should consider withdrawing it from bookstores. "No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them, especially falsehoods that are meant to smear the military service of an American veteran," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. "If I were them, I'd be ducking under my desk wondering what to do." Clanton cited this as a serious problem.

And these are the same people who screamed that Moore's pile of stinking lies should be shown in theaters everywhere.

I bought it at Hastings in Spokane the other day. I was there today and I'm pretty sure I saw it there still.

I bet I know the real reason you are ducking under the desk, Mr. Clanton... Tell Kerry "hello" for us!

I say again and again, we all should be checking our local bookstores, if you have problems with the clerks, ask to speak with the manager. If you have a problem with a manager, ask to speak with the Regional Manager.

I have already posted where you can get the book on the web for under $20. Search for the book title, in the last two hours.

No, no problem that I know of. They under ordered, all the copies they have here are on hold for others. Oh, and they don't know when they are getting more, but according to them the publisher is out of stock as well.

Anyone know for sure?

I special-ordered the book through my local Barnes & Noble and received it a week ago.

I do think that the stores can't get the book because Regnery underestimated the demand and did not print nearly enough books.

I have heard that they are now in the process of printing a second batch.

I haven't gone seriously looking for it yet, but I was looking through the books in K-Mart today. One of the workers asked if I needed any help (a 1st for me in K-Mart.) I asked if they had Unfit For Command yet. He told me they didn't have it, and got one of his coworkers to join him in telling me how evil Bush is. Did you know that Bush committed genocide so that he could go to war in Iraq and steal their oil? I kid you not! That is what they told me! One of them said I need to see F911, so I'll know the truth!

They are desperate to prevent sales now so it can't end up on the NYT bestseller list (or at least, it will achieve a lower ranking)

"American Soldier" is IN at Barnes and Noble, Seattle WA.

"Unfit for Command" will be n/a until September 10th, say the same, due to publisher supply errors. One item of note... the bookstore said they havent received ANY yet... I find this hard to believe. Anybody else get the same line?

That's when you go to the manager, and explain to them exactly why you won't be back, and then you send in a comment card AND a letter to the upper management...

Employees hate that ;0)

I tried Borders on Tuesday. Sold out. Tried Barnes & Noble Wednesday. No chance. Special order - $27 in the store - $19 from the internet.

The story I got was that the publisher started the second printing on August 14th. The next story I got was that the publisher couldn't handle the volume. The printing went to another printer on August 17th which could handle one million copies.

You need a few hundred *Crinton memoir books? I can hook you up!

I was at the downtown Borders here in San Diego and in the
front area are the anti Bush books and any popular conservative books you don't see except one that was buried.

On the second floor where all political & world affair books located, jam packed with left wing crap and on the end of the rows in the general area, full of aiti bush books. A few conservative books on the shelved.

I asked one of the workers there, why conservative books on the NY Times best seller list are not in the section where they belong. I got , well I will have to check the computer. I said don't bother, I know why they arn't there and why I and many others have bought many books over the past months at Amazon. I said I guess you folks are making a good profit to drive away customers.
