"People of Faith" Ask: How Would Jesus Vote?

AUSTIN - Just a few miles from George W. Bush's former office at the state Capitol, a panel of religious experts Tuesday weighed a question with relevance to many people of faith: How would Jesus vote?

It's a complex question that can't be boiled down to simple political terms, say religious leaders who attended a Texas Faith Network conference in Austin.

But at least one conference speaker - James C. Moore, co-author of "Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George Bush Presidential" - said he knew exactly how Jesus would vote.

"If ever there were a bleeding-heart liberal, it was Jesus Christ," Moore said. "I think the carpenter from Galilee was the original Democrat."

Moore drew laughter and applause from a moderate to left-leaning crowd of about 250 clergy and lay leaders who met at Congregation Agudas Achim synagogue.

Many at the conference voiced concerns that the religious right dominates discussions of faith and morality in politics. They complained that issues such as abortion and gay marriage seem to take priority over hunger, corporate crime and even the war in Iraq.

Some research has found that white Christians who attend worship services at least once a week are far more likely to vote Republican, while less frequent worshippers and those who are not religious tend to lean Democratic. Many analysts have criticized Democrats for failing to more effectively reach religious voters.

"The sound bites and the headlines have co-opted people of faith," said the Rev. Tom Heger, pastor of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Manchaca, south of Austin. "It would be a surprise to a lot of folks to discover that there are some very faithful, regular church attendees who aren't going to vote for Bush."

Indeed, it doesn't really matter wha tthe bible says, its how they feel about what the bible says that matters. Authority is found at the closest church, because the opinion of the pastor is the interpretation that fills the church on Sunday. Horsefeathers!

Jesus Christ would be a conservative today. He'd also be a friend of the poor, he'd feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, and raise the dead, just like he did when he walked among us as a man. He'd weep at the moral relativism demonstrated by the media, the liberals, and culture of today. He'd weep at where original sin and unrestrained free-will without consequence or responsibility has taken us, and where it is leading. He'd preach and many would come over to his way of life. The way of truth and life. Some others would walk away sad, like the young man in yesterday's Gospel reading. 'I'v kept all these commandments since my youth. Then go and sell all you have and give to the poor and come and folow me. The young man went away sad, for he had many possessions.

May God have mercy on us if John Kerry, in his present form, becomes president. May God have mercy on the liberals and may their eyes be opened to see God's reality.

Thanks...

The simple answer to this is: Would Jesus support the slaughter of innocents.

Vote schmote.

As a Christian, I was always curious about what would Jesus wear?

And what would he eat?

Would he drive in a car, or use a horse?

And what about a house??

I always wondered about these things when I was a kid.

"many analysts have criticized Democrats for failing to more effectively reach religious voters"

These people really don't get it. The problem is the dims message has come through loud and clear. Institutionalizing sodomy, the destruction of unwanted children, attempting to thwart parents options with respect to how they raise and educate their children, the marketing of every known perversion to children through every forum possible, attacks against God and the preaching or presentation off the whole counsel of His Word at every point.

That some bunch of leftist pseudo-pastors think it's all about sound bites shows just how clueless these guys really are. They wouldn't recognize the Word of God if it kicked them in the head. Unfortunately their apostasy is exacting a heavy price for those under their care.

"As I read the Scriptures and as I understand faith, God's side is the group that's feeding the poor, caring about children, making sure that people have enough food to eat - not killing others," said Tutt, who opposes the war in Iraq.

This guy is clueless. God's side is not condoning abortion which the Democratic party does. God's side is also loving his neighbor. If you truly loved your neighbor and you saw an evil man preparing to murder him, what would you do? St. Augustine's Just War Theory considers this possibility and justifies war in certain cases.

In my local rag, I have seen umpteen ignorant letters, on the editorial page, written by people explaining how they are going to vote for the wonderful "Christian" John Kerry.

No, no. They're probably members of Reverend Jesse Jackson & Reverend Al Sharptons First Church of Hate Mongering. Remember: 9 in 10 blacks voted Gore and 8 in 10 are surely going for Kerry.

Jesus and Vietnam vets: leftists suddenly love them, in election years.

Christ knows the evil of abortion....of that I am sure.

THERE IS NO DOUBT WHO HE SUPPORTS....NONE.

NOR IS THERE ANY DOUBT WHO THE "OTHER GUY" SUPPORTS EITHER.
