Isn't this guy a FReeper? FReeper Joe Brower posted this pic on an earlier thread.

Much better to write something like "property defended with firearms."

Our Judicial Oligarchy has forced people to believe that they must mince words to avoid prosecution if they are involved in an incident. The intent here is to make it clear that this guy is defending his property.

He wants to make sure any idiot gets the point, not just people with a sixth grade reading ability.

Molon Labe!

"Two little words. With these two words, two concepts were verbalized that have lived for nearly two and a half Millennia. They signify and characterize both the heart of the Warrior, and the indomitable spirit of mankind. From the ancient Greek, they are the reply of the Spartan General- King Leonidas to Xerxes, the Persian Emperor who came with 600,000 of the fiercest fighting troops in the world to conquer and invade little Greece, then the center and birthplace of civilization as we know it. When Xerxes offered to spare the lives of Leonidas, his 300 personal bodyguards and a handful of Thebans and others who volunteered to defend their country, if they would lay down their arms, Leonidas shouted these two words back.

"'Molon Labe!' (mo-lone lah-veh)

"Which means,'Come and get them!' They live on today as the most notable quote in military history. And so began the classic example of courage and valor in its dismissal of overwhelming superiority of numbers, wherein the heart and spirit of brave men overcame insuperable odds. Today, there lies a plaque dedicated to these heroes all at the site. It reads:'Go tell the Spartans, travelers passing by, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie.'

"We have adopted this defiant utterance as a battle cry in our war against oppression because it speaks so clearly and simply towards those who would take our arms.

"It signifies our determination to not strike the first blow, but also to not stand mute and allow our loved ones, and all that we believe in and stand for, to be trampled by men who would deprive us of our God-given – or natural, if you will – rights to suit their own ends."

Thank you for that tidbit.

I'm not disagreeing with that sentiment. I'm just saying that, real world, the sign "will be killed" insures that he will have to prove his innocence in a court of law, under a charge of murder.

That's just the way it is.

Notice the large American flag in his living room...

The photographer's name is Marc Serota, and he is with REUTERS, if you want to follow-up.

In case anyone doesn't know better; writing "killed" in a warning-sign like this is a very very bad idea. If this guy were to kill anyone, he'd be charged with murder, bet on it. The "will be killed" denotes an intent/desire to kill - and that insures a charge of murder.

I'm just saying that, real world, the sign "will be killed" insures that he will have to prove his innocence in a court of law, under a charge of murder.

So, apparently there are some areas where we do not have "freedom of speech". You believe that this man has to choose his words carefully, despite his intent. In other words, his speech is limited by court precedent. Sounds arguable.

Why do you ask?

He evidently thiks he has some stuff to protect and is giving fair warning.

Got a problem with that?

Those kids were playing on Wrightsville Beach this morning, where the Old North State Chapter was supposed to be playing this morning. Long story. Photo's on the wrong thread.

Buck a funch of PC BS.

I salute the man for giving fair warning.

Last I heard, in court, you can be convicted of shooting an intruder, unless your life was in danger. If you could run out the back door, or climb out a window, you need to let the perp have his way.

I will guarantee, if this good 'ol boy pops a cap on somebody who he has not invited onto his property, well - they was warned. And I doubt there would be an uproar from his town to charge him.

Scum that even think of looting need a killing - not a warning.

People may not realize the political dimensions that such a case would raise. It's just my "two-cents" of advice - nothing more.

I don't know about that. If the damage was for the most part to the exterior of the structure the contents of the house could well be high & dry & undamaged.

This fellow is not a FReeper, although he should be. Like many older Floridians, he probably isn't too up on such "newfangled technology", but I'd wager that he can work his sidearm pretty good. $;-)

This fellow guarding his house is like many folks down these parts -- he is about as non-P.C. as you can get, and with very little provoking will probably ante up an ass-whuppin' to prove it. Folks around here are nice as can be, but they're old-school -- you threaten them or try to steal their stuff, they'll kill ya, and chances are good the A.G. will not prosecute. You can see why people from blue zones vacationing here walk around kind of softly.

This old fellow and his son also went through Andrew in 1992, where they got cleaned out by looters. He's not about to make the same mistake twice.

...True, Back in April, '74 (Night of the tornadoes)...Our house with hit, back of the roof gone, interior wall cracked and ruined, furn. waterlogged/fibre-glassed, pick-up truck rolled in a small ball...exterior walls/front of roof, dogs/cats, all fine garage intact.

btw...the man who built the garage said, "So well-built, It will survive a twister" in '70, we used it to store the remaining furn...we also kept guard (guns ready)...way too many sightseers...we sent thanks to him. :))

My sister and family went through Hurricane Andrew in south Louisiana. They had and still do live in a subdivision of about twenty families who are very close knit. All of the folks have arms in the homes, except this one couple. The wife had convinced her husband that any gun in the house was unsafe when they had children. So, he got rid of them all.

After Andrew hit and all areas were dark and unprotected, the looters started cruising. The men in the neighborhood got together and set up a schedule of armed watch 24/7. While they were doing this, the unarmed husband came running in saying "my wife said I could borrow one of your guns to help out and she is afraid".

Well, of course, they did include him, but he liked to have never lived it down.

Unarmed folks always run to armed ones when they need protection.

This was common after Andrew as well. In fact there was a documentary done about Andrew and they briefly interviewed a young girl who was sitting in a lawn chair with a 12ga Street Sweeper. Thay asked her if "that was a real gun?" and She replied "yes, and these are real bullets" holding out her hand full of shotgun shells. Folks here in the south take their gun rightss seriously and if that shocks the yankess, then so be it. Don't give us a reason and we won't have to use them.
